New to this cool site. My Mosins

Hello
I am new to this forum and find it fascinating. I have added pics of my Mosin's. The Rifle is a referb for sure. No matching numbers and has been through the mill. 1937.
The Polish M44 1953, is in excellent shape. All numbers match except the but plate. I have tried to give lots of good pictures so the experts here can tell me what I have.
I just moved from Ontario to Alberta and most of my hunting was with a bow. There were not any shooting ranges where I lived so I have not shot either rifle yet. Since moving to Alberta, my boys are after me to go hunting with them. There are also lots of shooting ranges here that I hope to get to soon. I have been considering buying a Henry Big Boy .44 mag for hunting out in the mountains and have been wondering if I should just use my Mosin. I am enjoying this site and look forward to any responses.

Nice rifles! I didn't get a chance to take a hog with mine this year (slug gun instead) but I did do some research when I was planning for it. The very common (and very cheap) 147 grain surplus isn't intended to be a hunting round, but I doubt there is anything it wouldn't put down. The problem is that in many areas it isn't legal to harvest with non-expanding rounds. The 203 Grain Silver Bear has a rep as a pretty good sledge hammer so I tried a box of 20 and I liked it on a steel plate. That gets you around the soft point issue without getting in to a price point where you might as well get a .308. The only side note is that the bear stuff is filthy, but that only matters when you're practicing

I like that Polish M44 but I am interested in the 37' M91/30 refurb as well. It appears to have a very light colored stock. My first M91/30 is a 37' Izhevsk and has a darker stock but the hand guard is lighter colored. A few more pics of the 37' please, if you would. (Sweet M44!) :D

That rifle is a beauty! I would give half of Jim's metal recycling facility for one of those. The first one I see in the wild is coming home with me, even if my wife makes me walk home with it.

Welcome: you have good tastes

:Canada: :welcome: I would take the mosin for hunting those alberta giants. Alberta is known for overly large whitetail deer. I also think you have the mountain buffalo or what ever it is called. I would love to hunt that ..and eat it after. :Drool1: Nice rilfes :vcool: :vcool:

Welcome to the board, that looks like one of the unissued Polish M44's we were getting here in the states back in the 90's, that is a very high quality M44. Nice issued 1937 also, good stuff.

Probably, Spain was peddling them to the world for years.

Welcome. Nice rifles to boot! How about a couple of pictures of the sling on the '37. Specifically both sides on each end of the sling where it goes through the sling slots. The front may show an SCW-type metal ring and the back pics are to determine what's holding it up back there.

Might also be an SVT sling. If it is, I'd love a chance to buy it from ya :bwink:
I have a few that still need a legit sling

Nice rifles. That is a good way to go, a 91/30 and M44 always pair up well. If you decide to hunt with either Mosin, you will do fine with a commercial hunting round like the 180 gr sp from Sellior & Bellot or Winchester, or Hornady 150 gr polymer tip. I have a Henry Golden Boy 22 also, (my son's actually) and it is buttery smooth. So I went to the gun store and checked the Big Boy 44 and it had the same buttery smooth action! So very nice. I do have a 44 mag carbine made by Ruger. As powerful as the 44 mag is in a handgun, it is even more so in a carbine or lever action. A real sledge hammer. A 240 gr hollow point brush busting power house in the 100 yard range. Go for it. You'll love it.
