Dad's Pistol HELP !

Post by rideandslidejim »

Hello All

Can anyone help me identify this pistol ? It belonged to my father, who "said" he brought it home from WWII, supposedly from a dead Nazi. I know how war stories can be, but it would be nice to know more about it. 380 Cal.
Many thanks Jim

Nice, yes it is a WW2 era pistol, Hungarian military in this case, it's a .380, made by FEN (Fémáru Fegyver- és Gépgyár ) called the 37M by the Hungarian Army. They were made under contract for the German army who called it the P37. The German contract pistols were in 7.65mm, however German officers could have had either the Hungarian, or P37 as they were constantly short of pistols during the war. A wide variety of both civilian, and military pistols from any nation could be found in use by German soldiers, or officers, Hollywood likes to focus on Lugers, and P38's because people recognize them but in truth a German sidearm could be anything . I don't see Nazi markings on the pistol, but the story behind it is likely true. Nice :)

Gotta love wartime bringbacks that are family heirlooms. Did your Dad tell more of the story?

My uncle had a Nazi flag he said he climbed a flagpole and cut down. It was signed by lots of the men in his unit and they did not mince words, but that was all of the story he told us. Really wish I knew more, but like so many, he didn't want to talk about it.

I'm sure he did,but time has erased too many details to make an accurate story. I don't think he had any front line duty ???? But nice to know all the timeline is correct with the pistol,
so means even more to me now. It's the only gun a didn't sell during my hardship times.

GI's were always trading stuff around, winning and losing stuff in crap games, you dad might have traded a box of chocolate bars for that pistol. You never know.

Nice pistol, Germans pressed everything into service so does not have to be Nazi marked to be a German service arm. Have you shot it?

I have a friend at church who has a Femaru in .380 just like yours. These are not cheap .380's. I have seen then go for 700-800 bucks on Gunbroker. Sometimes a little less and in lesser condition still over 400.00 I shot it and it shot very nicely. The quality is definitely there. His Femaru was a bringback by his father also. Your picture does not show, but these are easy to spot by the finger hook on the magazine. Does your mag have a matching serial #?
