Winchester Model 1917, fills a collection slot

Slowly building on a US long arm 30-06 collection that I never intended to start. But now, after four 1903's and two 1903-A3's, it's way too late. I'm doomed.

So, when this Winchester Model of 1917 crossed my path, it landed in the collection. Stock is a replacement, of course, with no cartouches. Barreled action appears to be original finish.

Here are the pics. Comments always welcome. And thanks for looking.

Very nice and a real low numbered one, both my Winchesters are in the 200,000 plus range. :Drool1:  There is a Mosin out there homeless now, a Pattern 14 and now an M1917 Enfield, the Mosin gods are not amused  I'd say your doomed, they are great rifles

The star in the circle I've been told means it didn't leave the U.S. due to part interchange issues, the manufactures had slight differences in manufacturing early on, meaning there was a chance that an Eddystone part may or may not fit a Remington, and so on. So they marked and kept them in the states for training rifles.

Yes, it's been a "non-Mosin" week for collecting. I get on those kicks every now and then. The Pattern 14 and Model 17 were noticeably missing from the mix...

... and don't forget the No2 MkIV* New Zealand stamped .22 trainer, too. Good week, overall.

Oh, me-
Then
Single
no kids
no adult supervision

Now
Single
NO kids
even less adult supervision :chuckles:

Well, better late than never, once you start down the path of US milsurp collecting there is no going back, slowing down maybe, but you will always need your Garands and '03, 1917's and so on. Mosins and Mauser's , Arisakas, and Enfields are cool to a point, and that point is that they will always be "their stuff" while the 1917, 1903, Garand is "our stuff" These are the Doughboy, and GI Joe's weapons and nothing tops that for an American milsurp collector.

No USGI collection should be without an M1917. That is a beautiful rifle! 8-)

 Another nice one. I looked at an Eddystone about a year ago, but didn't end up pulling the trigger.

I was recently given one (read yesterday December 28th) that used to belong to my grandfather, It is a remington, stripped it down cleaned it and will be shooting on sunday after I get back from my parents house.
I have traced the serial number to a manufacture date of October 1917.

My grandfather picked it up in the 50's and sporterized it and put a scope on it.

Any idea where I can locate an original stock so I can restore it. I intend to leave the scope as is but would love to get am original stock and a bipod for it.
