Applying for a C & R

Gentlemen,

Newbie here. My question is does it really take 90 days to get your C & R? Just applied yesterday and my patience isnt the greatest around. Purchased my first Mosin from Buds last month (and now Im hooked, love these Russian girls!) but my local dealer charges $45.00 per transfer. Tight budget so I thought the C & R was the way to go.

I mailed my paperwork in a couple of months ago and received my license in the mail 3 weeks later to the day. I don't know if that is typical or not. Hope you get yours sooner rather than later.

It took maybe five weeks to get mine. It probably depends on the volume of requests they are getting. The election has a lot of people tooling up, so it may take a bit longer. Meanwhile, save your pennies, you are going to need them! The wait will be worth it, there is nothing more fun then seeing the UPS truck coming up the drive with your new toy.

Took six months in NY back in '06.

Six months? That is crazy. My wife got her pistol permit faster than that lol. I called and asked the the lady at the ATF a couple questions about filling out the paperwork (didn't want to risk any mistakes) so maybe that sped the whole thing up. They were very pleasant to deal with.

NY has special requirements for everything related to guns, you don't want to know how long CCW permits take here, but this state requires a home visit by a BATFE agent to teach you the rules before they will sign off on a permit.

Took me about a month to get my C&R. Carry permits in GA are as easy as getting a fishing license. The only issue is the cost, about $75. Good for 5 years though.

BE EVRY CAREFUL!!!!! A C&R will cost you lots more money! Why? Because with all the $20.00 transfer fees you will be saving you will rationalize buying more rifles because of the additional savings :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

Ok, on a more searious note  it took about, 4 weeks for mine to come in and its well worth it IMHO.

It took 4 or 5 weeks for mine. Seemed like an eternity though.

That's area dependent. I live upstate (Broome County). I applied, sent the copies to the ATF and CLEO, and had my C&R a month later...........no home visit, no nothing.

I live in NY. I never had anyone come to my house or even call. I wonder if they have changed that recently (I just got mine 2 months ago). How long ago did you first apply for yours?

I got my CCW in about 8 months (I think that's pretty normal in this state). I have a friend who waited 4 years for his.

I got mine in 2010, and as I stated above, no visit, no nothing, took about a month. The only people I've ever heard say that they had a visit were downstate.

Maybe depends on the county? I know your handgun permit wait time varies depending on what county you're in.

My wife got her handgun permit in just 3 months, but the lady who did her investigation said that she personally doesn't like CCW so she would only forward the paperwork for a restricted permit. That has always bugged me. Who cares what the investigating officer's personal opinions are? The only thing they should be concerned with is whether the person being investigated represents a danger if they were to be issued a handgun permit.

...........and THAT is exactly just one issue of late. How those working in the public domain can project their own personal views into permit issuance and the like really pisses me off...... :devil2: ......our local PD will ONLY take applications on Tuesdays (every other Tuesday, and try, just try to figure out which week IT is.......its never the same)......and they will ONLY take them in from 9"00 AM until 1:00 PM and the officer takes a 45 minute break whenever he feels like it.

Also this is the only one in the entire PD who issues ANY type of permit!!! So you wait in a line with others looking for all sorts of permits issued by the PD........I don;t want a parade, I don't want a freekin officer for my dance or yard sale.......I want my freekin gun permit..........good heavens this state (mASSachusetts) is out of control.
PURE BS>

Frankly the Fed's were very good to work with and very polite and prompt.

I live just a little under 2 hours from the office in Martinsburg, WV, took me a month and a half to get my last renewal.

The waiting period is the time to clean all the spare the change out of your sofa, under the car seats and dash, quit fast food just so you can save up, Cause it will cost you. :chuckles:

Life when you live within a hundred miles of NYC.

Too dam close to NYC is the problem, as if I might be thinking of supplying NYC gangbangers with Mosins.
