Here she is, gentlemen; my new sniper (pics)
She arrived today;
a 1943 Izhevsk M91/30 PU from Rguns. The magazine floor plate looks to have been re-numbered. She's got some nice character marks on her stock. Her bore looks great. Her scope is clear. She's got a bit of cosmoline that needs removing though. I've got a few questions. Who would have done the electro-penciling on the mount and why? What's the best way to remove the cosmoline? Can I take the paper out of the lens covers or should I leave it in? What's the best way to maintain the leather? How do the scope adjustments work?

Nice one. I just use Redwing boot oil on my lense covers. The electropenciling was done by the arsenal to match the mount to that rifle during refurb. It's match to that rifle and if it was mounted on another rifle it would not be accurate. I left the paper in the lense caps on mine but it probably doesn't matter if you remove it. Nice PU
Who's that in the pic you are aiming at through the scope, your mother in law?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thanks for these resources. Turns out I need to leave the paper in the lens covers so they're tight enough to stay on. I'm glad to know it was the arsenal folks who did the electro-stuff. I was previously under the impression that it was generally performed by importers, dealers, gunsmiths, bubbas, etc to force-match the parts; but that's what I get for being ignorant.WeldonHunter wrote:Nice one. That's exactly why I left my paper in the lense covers. This rifle with the arsenal electro-pencil is absolutely untounched by any importer except for the required import stamp or anyone else especially bubba. What you have is a rifle from probably the most unquestioned source with a provenonce recognized instantly by any collector that knows these rifles. Covet that rifle. It's collectability will only increase as time goes on with all the fakes being sold. You will never regret getting this rifle from RGuns.MeatMarket wrote:Thanks for these resources. Re: Here she is, gentlemen; my new sniper (pics)
I am seriously considering adding one to my collection. I have a hard time coughing up the dough for a good one when I could see that going toward a WW2 issued M1 Garand. Of course M1 Garands are high also! (If you get a good one). Anyway, congratulations on your recent purchase! It is one sweet looking Sniper Rifle!

Thanks, I've been thinking about taking a trip down to the CMP place in AL to pick out a Garand for myself soon. My collection wouldn't be complete without one, and it would be the first semi-auto in my collection.

First please read up on the forum rules concerning permanent modifications to milsurps, that is a no/no here.jmak wrote:I have a the rifle and sent the bolt out a year or so ago to get it made for a scope. Today I ordered a Firefield scope. Next will be getting it here and attached to the

It is indeed. I have set a date on the calendar, cleared the particular weekend and arranged for the babysitter, but it won't be until December. When I go, I go from when the place opens till the sun goes down. I will post a range report before Christmas.bunkysdad wrote:Cool rifle. I'll bet the shooting range is calling your name.
