It's "paint" in microsoft paint, haha not real life :) the only marks I have found are new england westing house, tula hammer, tula arrow, and some just random "T" and "M" and a marking that resembles 2 ks having there backs touching ( like this ʞk but even symmetry and touching)., I will take pictures of the tang and bolt pieces tomorrow. As well as the stock.

Post war stock lends to my thoughts of it being really nice and the dull finish shows too. It should be left that way to retain value and trust me the wood has been protected by the Finnish at the armory when it was made. Nice deep Tikka markings! So far something to be proud of for sure. Many people never see one of those and I Thank You for sharing with us! Looking forward to more pictures! Bill

Post war style square finger joint on the stock, it has the look of an unissued rifle. Unissued rifles tend to have that new piece of wood look to them while the older field issued ones are darkened from years of Finn Wax treatments and campfire heat. Very nice :)

A great majority of the post war staocked M39's were never issued just sent straight to storage and then sold as surplus years later. That look they have is one of a kind and can not be duplicated. I have a similar rifle which I have never shot and more than likely never will. It just has to be kept the way it was for the later owners to enjoy it's history. The condition of it tells the people looking at it I never fired a shot in anger and I am like brand new. Wonderful rifle for sure! Bill :)

I have it on a wartime unissued stock on a B barrel, and one of the VKT's, strange that they had these unissued rifles in stock and yet they went and built M39's in the 1960's and 70's to use for training rifles. Maybe they forgot they had them, or making new rifles was easier than digging the old ones out of where they had them hid. Good luck in finding that kind of rare stock, they tend to be attached to nice M39's. All the best tiger stripe M39's are in Dolks collection anyway

I forgot we were talking about an M39 there for a moment, do not swap out the rifles stock, the Finns tuned the rifle to give optimum performance with that stock. They shimmed the action if needed ( and if there are shims in the action be very careful to keep them in their proper places) or didn't shim it, if you put the action in a new stock you start from scratch.

Once you start changing stuff around it becomes just another messed with rifle. You can call it rare, you can call it striped, you can call it cool, but don't forget to call it messed with. I know any of these could already be messed with, but it's different when you know without a doubt because you know you messed with it.

Most of the "tiger striped stocks have a different finish on them like Zeebill told you. If you put one of those on that rifle, it will no longer be "correct" and believe it or not, the value will drop.

Tiger stripped stocks are very hard to find. Why mess up a "perfectly good" Tikka M39. The rifle is perfect the way it is right now with that correct stock. Altering a milsurp rifle even if it is only "non permanent" is a total waste. If you do that, please post it down in the "Sportster forum" or the "Restoration" forum. In fact, Those two forums are for rifles you got that someone else messed with and not you. We really don't have a forum where you mess with the rifle even if it is not permanent, just to be messing with it. And I'd bet the majority of the older guys wouldn't care to see a forum like that added. And I'm not going to add one either. :bwink:

Very nice rifle.....enjoy it! 8-) 8-) 8-)

You are very fortunate to have found such a rare and desirable make of M39 for your first one, enjoy it as it is as you would be paying between $500-$1000 to replace it should something be ruined.

You know I don't believe I am advising you this because I advocate firing everything you own but that one is truly unreplaceable. There are just none like that around anymore unless they come out of hiding in someone elses closet after someone dies. I would bite the bullet and look for something else that pleases you to shoot and leave that one alone till the day I am leaving earth and give it to someone I know who will continue the same program.

By the way we need to see the 91/30 now as it looks almost the equal of that M39 in many ways in that one picture. You need to tell the source of these rifles you would like first shot at anything else from that group and keep that source to yourself because if they are anything like this Tikka M39 you need to follow up on it. For heavens sake keep it to yourself and don't say where you got them because these detectives on here will be finding out where it came from in no time. You have at least one rifle in that M39 that could be keystone of one super collection! Congrats on finding that and I sure hope you follow some of our suggestions and maintain that the way you found it. Seriously that is a throw back to what was found 20 years ago and is totally unavailable these days! That thing blows me away! Congrats again! Bill :D

I never want to fire this rifle (The tiger stripped was just to see others opinions on it) and I was searching around on the internet and found a round reciever m39 -_- someone snatched it away. I was on the site for less than a day.
