Ok here is the deal guys. My buddy wanted me to clean up his yugo sks and man that thing is bad the bore it pretty gnarly but everything else I have got cleaned up really well besides the damn gas valve. The problem is the button will press in but the valve will not budge. I have tried mulitple thing including heat, letting it sit for about 2 days soaked in wd40 and pb blaster. I started to soak in some carb cleaner today and so far its broken up some carbon in the valve but it still wont budge. Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do to get this damn thing out? Please i'm open to most options and just wanna get it out so he can get a new valve and be done with this mess. Thanks for any and all replies I may try heating it up again and see if I can get anywhere.

When I have stuff locked up like this, I use a penetrating oil like Kroil or Liquid Wrench.

It had been soaking for 3 days in wd-40,pb blaster and some carb cleaner. I even busted out the torch to heat it up a little bit. Still after all of the no go. So today I had the idea of tapping down the button to depress it and got a punch and started to tap it to the middle. Well is started moving then got it to the middle of the gas block then taped it down again and tapped it forward and pulled out the button and got the valve out. It was very corroded and carboned up in the valve and block. But I got the valve out for my buddy and cleaned up the gas block. Just gonna get him to order a new valve and go give her a whirl and see how she does. The bore is pretty dark hopefully some of that crud shoots out. I tried cleaning it a few times and got some of it out. Thanks for the reply though man much appreciated.

I only have one SKS; a Norinco Chinese type 56 and it does not have a gas valve. I understand the Yugos have them for the grenade launcher system. Where you get a part, I'm not sure. However, there has to be a supply of spares available with as many of these guns imported to the US.
I got lucky with my first purchase, as the gun was unfired and the gas system was like brand new. I have my eyes on another Chinese, but it is well used and looks like it has been fired quite a bit without cleaning. I'm not sure I would buy something in that condition for fear that corrosive ammo was used and the gas system might be a rust bucket. The bore is chrome-lined but not the gas system parts. There isn't much way to tell if you can't disassemble the gun.
The way I view (from afar) the gas valve system on the Yugo is that it is of no practical use for the sport shooter and just something else to go bad. Nevertheless, I would still like to have a Yugo to play around with. The guns sure look good.

I can get a valve from Murrays which they arent much. But this is my buddie's yugo I also have a Chinese sks and it is a great gun. Mine was in mint shape when I got it. I can't say that for his Yugo though haha. It has a beautiful stock and a bulk to it that the chinese don't. Even if it didn't have the launcher on it. The stock is beefier than the chinese but I like how the chinese handles it's very light compared to a Yugo. I would get one for myself but I would have to look the gun over as the bore on his is a sewer pipe. Hopefully most of that crud will shoot out we will see I guess. Again thanks for the replies I always like chatting about guns in general.

My Yugoslavian is a nonrefurb, it had a dark pitted bore when I got it years ago, it shoots as well as the rest of the SKS's I have. I just keep it clean and have seen the bore actually brighten up over time. I've been lucky, never had an issue with the gas valve on mine. I do get a puff of smoke at times from the gas block area, but no failure to feed or eject issues. I however, have been guilty of forgetting to open it back up once or twice
The type wood used on the Yugoslavian adds a little weight along with the grenade launcher hardware, medium weight elm wood vs. light weight Chinese chu wood. Also, from what I've seen, the older the Chinese, seems the more interesting the stock, my /26\ from 1965 is done up in a red shellac, with what looks like a darker type wood, not the normal yellowish type. My best looking SKS stock happens to be a Romanian, the worst stock has to be the Albanian, the stock looks like someone fitted the action with a pocket knife, the action is actually loose, moves up and down some. That one is still packed with some grease and remains unshot due to the loose action. But, any wood stock other than a T***o is good

Hey greasemonkey thanks for the reply. My chinese is a blond wood which it's not bad looking but sorta got an orange hue to it. It shoots very well and is in great shape! My buddies yugo was in kinda bad shape it cleaned up well but there is pitting in the block and bore not horrible but you can notice it. He never cleans his guns though and I keep telling him he needs to atleast swab out the damn bore or somthing along those lines. I treat my rifles with the utmost respect. I clean them very well and take care of them. Hopefully when he gets the new valve it goes in easy and we can fire the rifle and see how shes performs. I love the look of the wood on his Yugo though even with the battle scars and what not it is beautiful. I kinda like the weight and bulk of it but my chinese is so easy to sling around. Is your Romanian Beech wood? I love beech probably my fav for a stock. The grain is very pronounced and gorgeous. My pole 44 has some crazy grain on it and it is beech wood. I only have one sks but it gets well taken care of. I would love to get my hands on a good Romanian or a yugo M59.

Yes, the Romanian is a beech stock, it's a '57 with all matching numbers with the rare Romanian sling(thanks again, OldOutlaw

). The Yugoslavian I mentioned, is a 1971 dating by the serial suffix, unrefurbed and my very first milsurp style weapon. I got it about 12 to 13 years ago. It was imported through Numrich, and only the top receiver cover is unmatching, the metal finish is very thin. Even after all this time, the stock still weeps cosmoline when left in hot bright sunlight

Those are beautiful rifles I really like the stock on the Romanian. My chinese has the spike bayonet I really wish it had the blade type as the spike on mine will not stay in the groove when you are holding the rifle to fire it. It droops down a little bit and haven't figured out a way to remedy that problem. I have an unissued sling for my chinese. When I got the sling it came in the wax paper and was new. I dig those leather slings though very nice!

Thanks

Droopy bayonet, could be a weak lock spring or the wrong locking collar is installed, I believe there is a slight difference in angles on the spike/blade locking collars. Also, I've seen a large number of spike bayonets installed upside down.
My bladed Chinese SKS's, one is a 9millon series arsenal/26\, from a distance at a show, I thought it was a Russian. The other is stamped Norinco and China, but upon further inspection is a very late Russian Tula. Spike bayonets are very common in my area, the blade bayonets are fairly rare.

I don't know the year of mine but it has a stamped trigger assembly. The bayo was installed upside down and I corrected that. Mine is a 016 arsenal and it doesn't have norinco on it anywhwere it just has KFC Atl. Ga made in china then the caliber. My serial number is 22017441 which makes me think it may be from the 60's 70's or maybe even 80's but it isn't a commercial made rifle I believe it to be a mil surp. Everything matches on the rifle. I have had some work done to it such as trigger work by Tom Prince I added a mojo rear peep for it and threw on an albanian bolt carrier. I still have all of the old parts and can toss them back on very easily. I love shooting it excellent gun in my opinion. I know some people look down on chinese made guns but this one is made well. Again thanks for sharing your sks's with me I appreciate it sir.
