My son showed up at the house with a real neat looking but odd 22 Winchester 1906. The gun is real clean with some show of wear on the finish and the finish was the odd part. I am not really up on old Winchester 22 rifles and wondered why anyone would nickle plate the receiver! Research showed the rifle to be top of the line for that model It is called an Expert in the listings. The bore is in mint condition and the action shows no wear it does have it's bump and dings but heck I can't believe the condition it is in! Looks like a real keeper.

I am not that up on the finishes of commercial firearms but Winchester would special order things, back in the day nickle plating was a way to reduce corrosion and commonly used on many handguns. The fact that it is nickle plating and not chrome points to it's being from the era before 1930 . Nice find

Did you make that song up yourself? Creative, and you have way too much time on your hands
You must be kidding, Jim?
If you have ever ridden on a school bus (The yellow ones, Jim; not the gray ones with bars on the windows that you take on your trips to County) you have heard or sang this song.

I recall 99 bottles of beer on the wall, and some filthy limericks, plus All for me Grog, but your song is not familiar. I don't recall anyone singing on school buses when I was young.
Now, here is the problem: all of the good drinking songs are Irish.
But my kin did not hail from Eire. I am a MacLeod by God! And not that stupid TV show. The MacLeods that I hail from were not highlanders. My family came from the isles of Uist, Harris, Lewis, Skye and Mann.
So, I am at a loss.

My mothers side were all English and Irish, and I knew a lot of Irishmen growing up, still do, you pic things up I think some of them took a sadistic pleasure teaching Irish folk tunes to the grandson of an English gentleman

They had school buses when you were young? I figured you for the kind of guy that walked up to school, uphill both ways in 6 feet of snow year round. Barefoot of course

I did have to walk a quarter mile to the bus stop in all weather, back then school wasn't cancelled on account of anything short of a blizzard.

To be honest about it. I was called Bingo as a kid because I would sing that silly song! I then got an Irish setter from some cruel person! and called him Bingo and everyone else called him Bingo Red and I was still Bingo! So yes I have heard that song MANY times. It was later used as my call sign in the military so you gotta like it.

Christ that could have been a fight every Sunday morning. Are you Anglican, Roman Catholic, or ain't saying? Ain't saying is probably smartest.

They all gone now, the 1st generation ones anyway, long, long, gone. There is nobody living in my family on either side who remembers the old country first hand, most of that generation was gone around the time of the first world war.
