Is This PU Nagant Real?
Is This PU Nagant Real?
So I found a guy online that's wanting to sell his Nagant Sniper Rifle, he sent me only 5 pictures. Is it real or is it one of the PU's that were cobbled together here in America? It doesn't have the "91/30" on the scope which I heard meant it was fake, but I want you guy's take on it.

Did Dolk send you a link to the fake sniper information?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Is This PU Nagant Real?
This looks like one of those ATI's that was for sale.
The photos are not good enough to say yes or no, but from what I can see,
1) I see the ATI import mark up high on the receiver and that is a good sign. If it were lowere on the receiver under the mount, then it would be Fake.
2) Always good to see the leather scope covers covered in oil paper, but that is not a "solid" piece of evidence.
3) The holes for the mount (on the inside of the receiver) look good. Not messed with or screwed around with.
4) The "back side " of the mount with those swirl pattern machining is good. The reproductions (believe it or not) are nicer and smoother.
5) I see only a few problems that might not be problems. The cut out of the stock around the mount looks like it was cut by a machine. Notice how perfect it is? corners are rounded. That usually means a router on a jig. They didn't do that in WWII. The cutouts and corners are squared out. It's just too neat of a job for me. That is the single most concerning spot on that rifle to me.
I'd be a "little" (not much) concerned with the blurry photos. That is how you disguise things sometimes. It looks ????? OK???? with a lot of concern> I'd ask for more detailed photos of the stock cut outs, bolt, left side of the barrel shank, better photo of the top of the shank, better photos of the scope numbers and letters, the left side of the mount, and over all of everything. If he can't do that, then either he is not interested in selling it, or he's hiding something.
How much is he asking for it? That will tell a lot also. No one gives them away and they should be in the $750 to $900 range. If below $600, then it is almost certainly fake.
If it is above $800, I would not touch it if I could go get a known sniper from RGUNS for $800 (with no risk at all). Why take a chance?
My thoughts are that is is real with what I have to go on. But that is a big risk without more info.

Re: Is This PU Nagant Real?
Mine didn't.
The first ones sold did not come with a bayonet. The later one's sold did.

Bluing and metal finish look right to me.
Re: Is This PU Nagant Real?
Hey all, new member here. Been looking for a sniper for a while now, and recently found something interesting... My local Cabela's has two PU "snipers" in their display case. All numbers besides the scopes/mounts match. The guy at the counter says they're legit, I'm not so sure. One is a '31 Tula hex for $699. I'm certain this is a reproduction since a PU shouldn't be on anything from 1931. Has pre-war stock. I kind of winced when I thought of some guy putting a '31 hex into a drill press vice... The second is a '43 Izhevsk round receiver for $549. Post-war stock, refurb marks (box with slash). Missing it's cleaning rod. I'm inclined to believe this one is fake too due to the price and the scope. Both these rifles have PU scopes with serial numbers starting with "N4". I've read in several places that "N4" scopes were late model reproduction scopes (like late '90s to early 2000's) made specifically for slapping on regular 91/30s to convert rifles into cash machines. Also, neither of these rifles have scope numbers stamped on receivers (the Izh should, right?), but the Tula did have it's barrel number on the mount. Neither had any Ch, Cn, Sn, Hb or any other stamps normally indicative of a sniper. The employee says that's no big deal cause the Soviets often polished those out during refurb. I'm no expert, so PLEASE let me know if I might be passing on something real here. Also, both have Century import marks if that makes any difference (early Century imports were legit?). Any thoughts?

Re: Is This PU Nagant Real?
If they were real snipers they would be around $800. I don't think anyone would sell a PU sniper for a loss.
Next, PU snipers start in 41 or 42. Dang, I hate getting old, but that 31 is wrong if it is a PU. If it is a PU sniper with a 31 rifle, then there is one lie he told you.
Photos would be a good thing, but if they are selling that cheap, you can almost bet they are "fake" snipers.
