Gun Show M44

Post by MnMosin »

Hello, I took my kids to a gun show this morning and came home with my first M44. It isn't perfect but I like it. He was asking $179, I took it home for $160. He had it marked as a "M44 1944, all matching Tula". I saw right away he was wrong, it is an Izhevsk. It does have some surface rust spots and I need a little advice on how to remove/stop it from spreading. The barrel looks dirty but the rifling is sharp. It has a '44 Ishevsk receiver, single ear bayonnet bracket, and toe splice butt stock. It looks like the sling that came on it is a PPSH sling, it does not have the cog collars. I'm not sure what the correct sling is for an M4. Here are the pics:

Gun oil and some 0000 grade steel wool or even break free will remove the rust without removing the bluing, keeping gun oil on the metal will keep the rust from spreading. Nice rifle, wartime production guns always seem a little more special to me.

For surface rust I use a brass bristled brush and a little bit of oil and scrub it away never mess with the blueing of the rifles either.

Nice find Mn  great price also, I like the light color on that one. I don't think I've seen one with the bayo removed lately.
Both of my 44's have the screw peened for non-removal. :?:
