Howdy yall, new member introducing myself here and figured I would post some pics of a little of the collection. I have Garanditus almost as hardcore as Mosinitus. Here are some pics of the collection. I plan on being around for a while, so if you have any Garand questions, just ask away.
First off, some snipers:
Then a family portrait:
An Unfired original National Match:
it even has the ink stamp on the gas cylinder still
I know I am the worlds worst photographer so I need to work on that a little. When I see the pics yall post it makes me jealous. I guess it is an art in itself.

Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston
Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown

And many other firearms
Oh boy, I know Rob is going to love this post I was collecting Garands also back in the 90's before prices shot back up again. I never got into the snipers, mine are service rifles Springfield, H&R, Winchester, and IHC, war years, post war, Korea,. We gonna need some detail on them Garands
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

M1 Garand, GI Joe's rifle, the best service rifle ever fielded by any army in the history of the world, bested only by the M14, and the M14 is only an updated Garand

Oh Lordy, I'm getting the M1 itch again. Thought I had it suppressed.
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work, because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation!
Very nice looking collection of Garands! I don't have any but I enjoy seeing them posted here.
I take it that your member name indicates you were an operator in the USN Military Auxiliary Radio System ? (One of my friends was USAF MARS for many years.)
"I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest I just wasted."
I try to hunt for the war time guns, earlier the better. I found that trying to make them somewhat correct is quite a hobby in itself. I do the trip to the CMP north store fairly frequently, although I am 8hrs away. When I get there, I head right for the field grades. The FG's tend to have more character and original parts so they tend to interest me more. If you dig a little you can find some true gems.
Here is my 6 digit Winchester that actually had something unique on the stock. It's the 4th one up from the bottom in the big pic. There was no finish left on it so I did repark it, most parts are Winchester.
and if you ever make it out to one of the CMP stores DIG THROUGH THE FIELD GRADES. Every time I find a diamond in the rough. Here is a HRA FG that I picked up on my last trip. The only thing not HRA was the milled trigger guard. 10 minutes after I got it home that was swapped out for the correct one.
Yup that is a FG with a MW of 0, zero.
Nah Hombre, I am not into the Auxiliary Radio. I did work on radios in the Navy, but my last name is really huge and begins with Mars so that was my nickname. Every time during muster the muster taker would attempt to say it and it would always turn into "alphabet you here?" alphabet turned into Mars and it just stuck. Although I have been out 6 years now my friends still call me Mars so I guess it sticks for life.
Welcome to the forum. Those are really nice. You're right about finding a gem at CMP. One of the members recently ordered a service grade rifle from CMP and got an International Harvester http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... ter#p94679 That one was a real surprise. These rifles are a blast. I shot mine this weekend. So did my buddy, his kid and my neighbor. None of who had ever even seen one. Needless to say it was a big hit. It was funny watching guys that hunt with large caliber bolt rifles pause to reload after the first shot, turn to you with that look "how do you recock it?" and you say "it's ready to go already".
I haven't decided if we should call you Mars, Garand guy, or the Tikka guy. All would be a compliment. Anywho, some more fine rifles, and thanks for sharing. Wishing you a heartfelt welcome to the forum!
Awsome collection ,
Welcome to the forum, take it from a newbie everyone here has really made me feel welcome.
I want a Field Grade Garand bad I am just over a couple of hours away from the CMP store in Anniston,Alabama.I am going to check it out when we go to the Talladega 500 in October.

Those are some amazing rifles! Question...was the flash suppressor on the sniper designed to hide the muzzle flash from detection by the enemy or was it designed to shield the shooters eyes so not to ruin the effects of " night vision". I have read both versions...not sure which one is true. I know from experience that the similar cone style flash suppressor on my No5 Lee-Enfield has little effect at hiding the muzzle flash.
Thanks for showing us your collection of garands. I don't have one but I had a M14 in S.E> Asia for awhile and I miss it. I can't afford the real cost of one cause I would burn a fortune in ammo. cause i love to shoot them so much. Ak's are my with in my semi-auto budget only. Almost as much fun too! JGC
I have one and I love it. The M 1 was my first Army issue weapon in 1961.
You have one hell of a collection, thank you for sharing and welcome to the Forum .
