Just Bought My 2nd Mosin

Post by BubbaDX »

I have been browsing the forum for a while learning about my 1943 Izhevsk Mosin Nagant. Then today I was at a local gun show and seen one with the Tula stamp. I wanted a Tula to go along with my Izhevsk, so I had one from each of the Russian factories. It was the only Tula Mosin I have seen in the last couple gun show's i've been to. Temptation got the best of me and I brought it home. I may have over paid a little. I paid $150 out the door. It's a 1938 Tula M91/30 with what appears to be matching numbers on the receiver, bolt, magazine and buttplate. Here are some pictures. Let me know what you think. How bad did I do?

Welcome to the forum Bubba. Boy your going to get a lot of flack for that name. :chuckles: Nice rifle you got there. It's a bit on the high side, but most of us here have a C&R so we get them at "Wholesale" prices. Glad you found us. Ask all the questions you want. That's a nice start, finding both arsenals.

Welcome to the Forum. :toast: It looks good. People have paid less and some have paid more. If you liked it, what else matters. Everyone needs a Tula. And an Izhevsk...and a hex....and a Finn and a lot of carbines.

Not a bad price OTD when considering the cost of ordering one, FFL transfer, and shipping. Those late 1930's 91/30's have a very nice fit and finish with smooth machining when compared with you 43 Izhevsk eh?

Well living in the south I hear that name a lot. I have to say though this will be the first time I've said welcome to Bubba on a forum. Welcome Bubba. Nice rifle you got. If you ordered one online it would be around $120 give or take for that rifle so you did fine. The good thing is you got to hold it and give it the once over which you can't buying online. Now that you have both Izhevsk and Tula you will most certainly need them both in Hex receivers. Then there's the carbines. Oh and the dragoons. Finns as well as US made too. Oh you have your work cut out for you. Glad you made it here.

Bubba I agree with clayshooter, you buy a 100$ 91/30 on line and it's 150 by the time you get it home, iffen you don't have a C&R.
You got a nice 1938 with the smooth machining on the receiver and barrel

Welcome and you have what appears to be a very nice rifle. Cost? It would have been that and more if you ordered off an auction it so I say Good Deal. Prices ALWAYS reflect what we, the buyer, are willing to pay. Just ask some of the older hands what they think of the current prices being paid for rifles, compaired to what they paid a couple years back, and then consider what they will be in a few years.

I think you did great - 1938 is a very good year. I have two with that date.

My C&R is "in the mail" so to speak. Don't worry, there's a lot to buy once it arrives.

Funny you mentioned the carbines, I would love to have a Mosin M44. I ask about it every gun show I attend. I just have not ran across one yet. And if I ever find either of the elusive hex models, it will be added to my gun safe also.

Is there anyway to find out what the markings on the stock are there for or if they even mean anything? One of the things I really liked about this one is the markings on the stock. There are several markings that are stamped into the stock. I've been searching a couple sites but there doesn't seem to be any real list of what they mean other than the square with a line through it i see referred to as the refurbisher's marking.

Thanks for sharing your find with us. Now you have to find some MNs to make up for that name, lol! All will be good as long as you don't refinish one or fall for the urge of sporterising of a milsurp rifle. :D :D :D :alien:

HUH, Three_Dogs, caught you with that alien again.....is there a connection? :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

BubbaDX, welcome to this "AGAINST-BUBBAISM-ALWAYS" forum into the Mosinitis-Addicts surroundings. As a Bubba of the innocent side, you MIGHT SURVIVE, so keep on reading the posts on Bubbaism to get educated on that issue, :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

Your Tula 38, even if not a Hex is a very nice find. Congrats! :Drool1: :Drool1: :Drool1: I don't have one, YET.

Now, PRIVATE, get her out of her dirty pants, perfume her with a little No 9 gun oil and take her to the range, after a head check, of course and then tell us how she shoots, counterbored or not. DO YOU HEAR ME? WHAT IS YOUR ANSWER? YES? ok carry on, PRIVATE.....This was in reference to another thread everyone here knows about. Nothing to do with you,....
