went to a lgs to see the nagants that they had in. as i was looking at them a young cleark and coustomer came over.they ask me if i knew much about them because the one guywanted to buy one and the cleark did not know anything about them.the 4or 5 rifles they had were all 43-44 izzys and in good to vg shape.the guy that was wanting one was afraid it might blow up because it was so old.i told him i just shot one made in 1896 and that they were good rifles.he had been looking at them for a while and thought they were all the same and ask me which one i would buy.i pointed to a ex sniper and showed both of them how to tell them apart.told him i would buy that one because they were all $129 and it would be worth more .i also told him how to clean it .even got the cleark thinking about buying one when he gets payed .told both of them that theycould find out alot of good info on youtube about them.guy even got lucky and found the matching bayo for it.after the coudtomer left the cleark told me he was not going to buy one at first because he was afraid to shoot onebecause it was so old but looked cook.

It kinda goes without saying that there's significantly older rifles in existence that get used frequently, and obviously a gunsmith could give anything a once-over to determine its' suitability for use, but hey, more power to the guy for his ignorance.

I shoot my 1866 Springfield. There is risk, tiny maybe, but with any firearm there is always that tiny chance that the metal might let go, the cartridge be triple charged, or some other mishap may occur. There is risk in getting out of bed in the morning, more people will die in their cars this year than the Mosin will harm, way more. People die every day while on the throne taking a crap, life is full of risk, but shooting these rifles adds only a very tiny amount of risk to daily life.

both the guys were in their early 20's and i did tell them about the forum.the cleark did not put the prices on them ,just the store manager.i did not talk to him and let him in on ant secrets,i even went as far as telling the cleark most of the store owners and managers did not know about them because they only wanted to make a fast buck and did no research on what they were selling.i like to help the new guys out and do not worry about the ones in it for money.i have got some good deals because they did not know what they were selling.

You said it brother!
I eddystone06 will shoot until I can not shoot anymore and I will shoot whatever I may be handed. I had my close call and still have a twitch but I will be damned if it stops me from doing what I love!

Yeah that is just exactly what I thought too! That is why I can trade away Ex-snipers for a real rifle of value to me. But by all means keep educating sellers so it costs you more next time to buy an Ex-sniper! Repeat after me "Loose Lips Sink Ships" and even though you were being Mr Nice Guy think of the results. When someone asks me if my "old Russian rifle is SAFE" I reply in a thick Russian accent: "
"IS Gun.......Guns not SAFE!".

I remember reading something like this;
A lady saw a Texas Ranger with a cocked and locked 1911 in his shoulder holster.
She asked him "Isn't that dangerous?"
He replied: "You bet your sweet ass it is!!"
