As I don't know a great deal about the SKS I need to have stuff like this explained to me, what is it? I can see by the stock style that it's probably Clinton era. Nice looking even if I don't know much about it
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

It is a commercial model made for US Distributors with AK mag capability. Most likely an M Series. Highly collectable for many SKS owners.
Pretty high priced now a days. But, no, it never was a battle rifle. A lot of different US Distributors wanted Chinese SKS that they could sell for Premium prices, so they had the Chinese assemble these to Distributor Specs. As far as for shooting, I have heard only very good about them.
Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston
Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown

This one looks nice, mine however was converted into a "para" rifle with AK mag out of an original military surplus SKS by the Chinese. I call it the bang/shit rifle, one bang and the mag falls out right onto your foot prompting the screaming of shit.

Certainly called the SKS-M. They came with either a Monte Carlo or three versions of the Thumbhole stock, as shown. The original mags were 5-round capacity only, but work very well with the 30 round Chinese AK mags. For some reason, most European mags "fall out". We'll have to all pitch in to buy a Chinese mag for JYD, so he doesn't keep traumatizing the range master with colorful language.
The Hungarian AK mags also seem to have decent success in the SKS-M. I shortened two of them to 20 round capacity to make the gun a bit more ergonomic from the bench. Really killer to fire off several mags-full in succession. Glad that X39 is still relatively cheap!
