I've looked at several of them at differnet Big 5 stores. I think they're recent Ukranian arsenal build ups. One I examined really looked like the real deal, although I've never had the real deal in my hand. The others, the scope, scope mount was way to pristine and mint for what should have been 70 year old optics made during the heat of battle installed on refurbished rifles. Local price on everything I looked at was $619. That is getting close to the Rguns price of $800 for the real deal.
Just my view..others will vary.

I am so tired of talking about "IF" they are real or what. In my opinion, unless they come from Rguns don't even ask or post about them.

If you have even the smallest idea in your mind that it is fake, then it is fake. That's your subconscious mind screaming at you that the rifle has been altered.

But..... But...... it is educational, especially if they post pic.s with the questions, you never know what tidbits of information you pick up.

I'm with L.C.....talked to tears....I don't have the sniper bug though. Too much money, not enough rifle.

I will just say this. Knowing that big 5s suppliers are mainly cai or pwa, i would say fake. They are just trying to make their customers happy. If their regular price is $620 then they will have a sale on these for 1-150 or so off that. Remeber that there are only 43 and 44s for the most parts that are PUs. Any other year would disqualify it immediately.

What is the purpose of the Russian-Mosin- Nagant- Forums .com?????? i was told a long time ago "if you do not like the topic,do not click on it" i have always thought the purpose of R-M-N-F- was to answer questions and give help to others if it's purpose is to censer/censor persons questions then please post "GET OFF THIS SITE" and i will leave MR. Longcolt44's censored site really really fast.
in answer to OP's original question the big5 snipers are not real. they are fakes. so far AIM,ATI and RGUNS have real ones.
It's not about censorship it's about this craze over these damn PU snipers & how it's getting old. Everyone wants one, loves them & are obsessed with them. Nothing really wrong with that, but enough already.
As of late, everyone has been beating a dead horse over the "Snipers" & it's getting to us all. Rest assured that the R Guns are real for $800. A fair price for what you get. ATI Cabella's, Big 5, Fleet Farm & AIM? These are not 100% documented & verified & therefore they are subject to being viewed as not 100% real. Sorry, but that's just how it is. Some are very close while others are blatant, crappy fakes & everything in between. Even the Samco rifles that were real sniper rifles with the holes done, bolts bent but missing a scope & mount are also in this grey area.
Also, It is recognized that time marches on, things become more rare, intrinsic & harder to come by over time. And for the "Average Joe" a less than perfect copy becomes appealing if that's all you can afford. Now, if the line in the sand is not drawn, everything becomes free game & you can just throw integrity & authenticity out the window. I'm sure we can all agree we don't want that.
Now here on this forum we do not embrace nor tolerate the blatant repros, but we do show some accommodation to the ones that are close; Like the ones currently being offered by AIM. We aren't going to get warm & fuzzy over them,
but for now we are giving it the benefit of the doubt until more information/documentation can be gleaned from them.
Also, Remember that this is a Preservation Forum & we have our position pointedly drawn in the sand regarding permanent modifications & pawning off what is fake as 100% real & genuine.
with that said, lets be civil & enjoy the program.

Yes guys, your both right. There are legit snipers out there besides R Guns. Never said there wasn't. Now; I would like to buy one but I don't want to spend over $1,000 for it. Please direct me post-haste to the nearest establishment so I may purchase said rifle.
My point exactly.

Let's get back to the basics & the original question. A valid question from a new member...
Answer: Big 5 is notorious for overpricing there Military Surplus arms & only occasionally have sales with back to earth pricing. Gander Mountain does the same thing as does Dunhams. Historically they have proven that the Sniper rifles they offer are Reproductions & I would be willing to stick my neck out & say the ones you saw are no different.
I refer you to this sticky below for more information to better discern how to tell the difference between real & fake.
Sniper and Ex-Sniper Information
Hopefully this information helps notabiker...

Hungarian is on here today also, you may see it at the top of the page on the Mosin forum were it's a sticky, and there need be no questions about it's authenticity. It's the one PU sniper that I will absolutely guarantee is the real deal.

You would have gotten a better deal by going in to your bathroom and flushing $600.00 down the crapper.
