1916 Spanish Mauser-lots of pictures

Post by Longcolt44 »

I made my usual Friday coffee stop at my gun shop and he had just taken in this Spanish Mauser. It followed me home. This is a Model 1916. The exact year is unknown as these were rearsenaled sometime during or post the Spanish Civil War, 1936 - 1939. Originally made in Oviedo, Spain and some in Barcelona during the war. These were scrubbed of all markings and most were later re chambered to 7.62X51 NATO round. This one is still in the original 7mm as shown by the stamps on the barrel. There are no import stamps on it anywhere. The bayonet is proper for this rifle. I bought my first 1916 Spanish Mauser a few years ago, it is re chambered to the NATO round but looks identical to this except it has all the original Oviedo markings, not scrubbed. That is Magic trying to help open the bolt. Enjoy.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Nice one!

I lucked into the bayonet for my 1916, they are usually pricey in good shape.

Nice 1916 Short Rifle. I just got rid of one of those, but I still have my first one I bought for fifty bucks and my second, chambered in 7.62 NATO.
Yours looks in pretty good shape. Here's a website with lots of info on those. You can pinpoint the year it was made by the new serial number it was given. http://masterton.us/Spanmauhome
You see in this world there are two kinds of people my friend, those with loaded guns... and those who dig. You dig.

Nice one Chuck, have one like it but it looks like it was pulled up out of the ocean after 30 years.
