1944 Izhevsk

Okay guy's, I've been perusing the internet, auction sites and forums for just over a year, for just the right all original components to rescope this piece (right down to the screws), that I believe this mismatched (bolt and buttplate), non-import marked sniper deserved and had once upon a time.
This one is not an ex-sniper but a sniper that at some point had it optics removed.
The final parts came in today from Moscow.
Many of you may have seen my "44" Tula which I believe is a fine example and came from the estate of a life long collector, but this one has a whole different appeal and will complete at least my 1944 PU Sniper collecting.
The scope has the same prefix and the serial number is less than 1600 numbers away.
No refurbishment marks anywhere on the rifle or scope.
This one has the sweetest trigger by far of any Mosin I own.
Please feel free to point out or mention anything that comes to mind and any addtional information is welcome.
I hope you like these pic.s and if there something else you'd be interested in seeing, I'll post it up ASAP.

I picked it up from a gunshow so I can't say, the Samco's should have been import marked I believe? Something unusual about it is that it has an M44 front sight, it was suspected to be a Samco or maybe even a bringback when I asked about it a year ago on another forum, here is a couple pictures of it back then.

I have a issued 1923 ex dragoon with a M44 front sight on it, I figured the original must have been damaged and they used the sight they had on hand.

JYD Thanks, awhile back and before it was completed I posted this rifle up on another forum and this is a quote from Marcus who was commenting on the possibilities of a M44 front sight being on this sniper.
"If there is no import mark to be found on it, it could also be a Viet-Nam bringback....I've seen a Viet Cong PU sniper with a replacement late M44 front sight like this. Other than sniper versions, 91/30 rifles were not common in Viet Nam and so they didn't have many spare 91/30 front sights, but they had lots of Soviet and Chinese M44 carbines and so the front sight from one of these would have been an available part."
Unfortunately I guess we'll never know wether it's just missed being import mark and is an Samco imported sniper, or if it is a bring back or other possibilities.
Because of it's original looking finish and the lack of import markings I thought it would be great example for rescoping
I am a little surprised that your ex-dragoon would have had a M44 sight installed a refurb? Thanks.

Thanks Celt, If I could find another one for $200.00 I'd restore it too.
I would want to make sure the next one has an original scope mount base and screws still on it, that seems to be the harder part to find.

Okay what next
Cajun, technically I think I used the wrong terminology as pointed out on another forum, (thanks Mike Radford).
The only thing done to this rifle was rescoping it, this rifle was never not a sniper rifle, so really it isn't a restoration in any sense, this rifle simply had missing parts replaced on it with the most original ones that could be found.
I think that a lack of import marks makes this firearm just a little bit more special, that coupled with what may be original finishes was justification enough for me to spend almost as much recoping this one, as I did for my "44" Tula in this link.

Which one do you like more?
I would like to think the Izhevsk is what these rifles look like prior to refurbishment.
I hope you enjoyed the pic.s and thanks for correcting me.

The rifle in question, a 1922, overstamped to 1923 ex dragoon was an issued rifle not a refurb. It was one of a series of issued 91/30's I picked up from Pat Burns five years ago. They were all pretty much the same, worn blue, no shellac left, no cleaning rods ( seemingly removed from all of them on purpose) some had Soviet refurb stamps indicating a refurb after the war at some point before reissue. No clue were they came from, could have been Eastern Europe. All of these rifles except for one with a cleaning rod worn barrel crown are good shooters, sighted in to hit dead on at 100 yards without the bayonet mounted. The wood stocks have a variety of interesting repairs, one stock has at least eight. Maybe next weekend I will feature one in a video report.
