If its not, I wont be able to buy a real ,anytime soon anyway. GIVE ME SOME GOOD NEWS GUYS!! dont lie though. lol. Thanks in advance

What is the import stamp? If it is Rguns or ATI you may be OK. If it is CAI you might have gotten worked over.

Where would those stamps be located at on it? and what might they look like?
Thanks, Travis

They will be on the receiver. They will be pretty obvious, CAI, ATI, or Rguns. If it says Rguns, most likely it is real. ATI, it might be real, CAI, most likely a fake, and not worth over $400. Although, I would not pay a penny over $200 for a fake. That would be the value of the scope, BTW. A drilled and faked rifle is worth 0 to me. I'm not being a ass. I am just telling you the truth.

Travis,
Here is what we really need to look at.
Photos of these area will help determine if it is real or fake.
Top of barrel shank
Left side of barrel shank (just above the wood line)
Photo of the mount from both sides
Photo of the "stocks" cut out
Remove the mount and take a photo of the "base" that the mount connects to
Photos of the entire scope especially around the turrets (knob adjustments), and serial numbers
Photos of the turned down bolt from the rear with the bolt closed
Photos of the turned down bolt from under the bolt handle at the bend in the bolt handle. Open the bolt and take a photo of the underside at the bend)
The import mark on the receiver to show it's location
Preliminary is, the scope looks good, the mount is really smooth, that make me wonder.
I'm not sure if I can see a scope number on the side of the barrel shank or not. Cut out for the scope looks OK.
Really need a lot more photos.
For a RGUNS import m,ark it will be on the top of the receiver and look like this
An ATI import mark will be on the side of the receiver in front of the scope mount. ATI snipers came through Germany (I think) and will have proof marks on the left side of the barrel shank.
If not in these two places, check the right side of the barrel, just behind the muzzle.

Dont see ANY import stamp on it. I'm right there with ya on the faked rifle. If it is fake...I just lost $900. Guess i will sell it and put that money towards a rguns sniper.

thanks dolk, I will post more in the morning. This is probly going to keep me up all night now...Why would you fake this crap and destroy rifles? I just would not be able to do it.
BTW the bent bolt handle looks real, IE no weld marks and such.

They fake them so they can screw the uninformed. Always do your homework before laying out that much dough.

This is an older import by the CT on the shank translated to ST on the reciever side. I will leave it to the others as to if it is real or not. The scope looks real to me but those other guys are the experts.

One of my faked snipers

by Century Arms has the import stamp on the barrel between the stock and front sight.
Just another place to look for a possible import stamp.

Thanks Greasemonkery

Just found the stamp on the barrel... CAI... So what is the percentage of it being a real now?
Also if the scope is real and drilled on a regular mosin, how much money can I get for it? I hope it at least pays half for a real one this time. (if this is in fact fake)
Hopefully a few people out there will find value in a ruined historical artifact.

I'm no expert in Mosin snipers, the one with the stamp on the barrel I've been told is an early import. I've heard/read the early CAI imports could be anything from the real deal to a true fake. Even though mine has the correct markings and year range, I just chalk it up as a fake in my mind and don't generally discuss either here. The later one I have has the billboard stamp on the receiver, and truly a fake. The fakes can cause an uproar here, the history of the weapon is gone and wasted. I still enjoy them, much like a commercial weapon both are fine shooters for what they are. Only positive side on my part is I got both fairly cheap, which is why they don't bother me so much being fake.
I'm sure if you provide the info Dolk asked about, he or someone else will at least let you know where your rifle stands. Good luck on getting the RGuns sniper, it's been one on my list for years, but something always draws me away.

$900? Ouch, well, I am no sniper expert so I will leave it to those who are to determine this one originality. I hope for your sake it's real.

As Greasemonkey states "I'm" definately not an expert on snipers although I have done a bit of studying on them.
It is also my understanding that at least some of CAI or Century's "early" (90's) imported snipers were the real deal but didn't come in large numbers, anyone can correct me on this if I'm wrong.
It is also my understanding that CAI built a lot of fake snipers but their import stamp doesn't rule it out as real.
I didn't want to take a chance or quite yet fully trust my own judgement on the subject, so I jumped at the chance to purchase mine from the collection of lifelong collector whom I have no doubt knew what he was doing.
It is a Century import and here's a picture ( sorry not the best pic.) of the importers stamp and it's position (the only flaw on the rifle I see)

.
And the link to the rifle just a little lower on this forum.

Your scope looks good, however I would have some concerns with the spacing between your mount and stock, alot more can be gleaned with pictures of some of the areas Dolk listed, I hope you got a good one and your pic.s aren't too bad either

Gentlemen,
Why don't we wait until he can post some photos that we can see to make an "informed decision" on.
Until that happens, no one here can make a call on this rifle. It's not possible.
Being a CAI rifle means it has a 50% chance of being real. That's all.
The scope is real.
The mount is questionable.
That is all you can tell from these photos.
Again: a lesson to those thinking about buying a sniper.
1) study and know what to look for in a sniper BEFORE you got to buy. If you have been on the forums for any time, and active. I have a page that shows what to look for in a sniper rifle. It is not available to everyone, but you may request to "see it" from me if you are seriously looking for a sniper. But it take a lot of time to learn what you are looking at.
2) Get someone you know to look at the rifle BEFORE you buy it. Impulsive buying will many times net you a "fake" sniper.
3) Buy from a very reliable source. Know your source BEFORE buying a sniper. This is one of the reasons we always say "look for the RGUNS import mark on the top of the receiver". You know you are getting a correct sniper if that is there. At least make sure you are buying from someone reputable in this field like Empire Arms where they have a reputation to protect. AIM, SOG, and J&G do not.
Asking if it is a real sniper AFTER you buy it is a very risky business.

It's definitely an early import & that's good news so far. Put yourself in the Importer's shoes during that period of time. You want to sell as many Sniper rifles as possible & at as little cost to your business. The rule of following the path of least resistance is always prevalent so in the beginning you utilize what is there. In the early days CAI would have sold the real deal off first & only delved into fakery after the authentic inventory was exhausted. I'm sure the complete PU Snipers went first, then the sniper rifles that were almost complete but needed a few additional pieces & then; Complete assembly from a Standard 91/30 utilizing authentic parts from inventory. The fakes being offered on the current market are a horrible conglomeration of reproduction & post war parts. They even assemble them on HEX receiver, Pre WWII rifles in total disregard to authenticity.
Get some detailed pictures up & everyone will do their best to assist in nailing this one down. Keep your fingers crossed.
