ATI 43 and 44 TULA PU

Post by Mantis »

Just got both of my ATI Tula PUs, it was worth the 3 week wait. Here is a quick run down of the rifles. The 43 is SN 55 it is I have an ex 43 Tula that is numbered 20, same Cyrillic letters... How cool is that? I can see a old 5 stamped on the side of the recv'r that was the scope SN (same as rifle)they did this on the first Tulas, both my 43s have it. IF YOU ARE 100% service connected military let Michael Stanton know he will help you out A BUNCH mine were 1500 OTD. 2 TULA PU SNIPERS for 2500 delivered beat that!!!! Customer service :D
In the box you get 3 things: The rifle, the scope, and the bolt. That's it. Not one thing more...
Some where I saw scope number 55 WHERE????
These are polizie rifles, not Russian, imported. You will find laser etching on the recv'r and on the barrel the barrel is dated 2010 and has the caliber and something else on it. The rifles: I hope to get pix up before this stupid site boots me. And now the files are too big........ :beek:
Both came with post war stocks, these were meant to knock people off the fence going to West Germany. Both of the rifles barrels are almost new, very sharp edges. The refurbs appear to be rather heavy to really light.
Both of my rifles have mostly Tula parts even the bolt handles have Tulas stamps. The actions are smooth as they come, no catches in them no need to knock of a burr so it cycles and closes right. I had to on my Rguns, it would catch as you push the bolt down. The scopes are clear the 44 is a refurb the 43 is not. The 43 the barrel strikes do not match up and the sight is bumped to the left, it has the Tula star on the stock. Hafta find out at the range. The trigger housing has a struck number.
The 44 is tanged 43.
This is my shot group from my Rguns 44 Izhevsk, I got these groups after learning to globe sight the rifle.

with 147 gr Cz weighed to match the weight of 21.9 g I will get the pix up of the ATIs, hear me no believe me later these are nice rifles
Range report to follow.

Are you saying they were $1250 apiece? My LGS has one for about $700. You may have gotten customer serviced.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I will try to clarify, my screen is decaying and I miss type, and often. I can't type and think... I wanted to post something and what I did was beyond stupid I hope this clears some of it up. But I now have 3 PU snipers 44 Izhevsk Rgun 43 44 Tula ATI and a really early 43 scope with sq mount turret. If my wife finds out these aren't just the 'old 80 dollar Russian rifles there may be a fire sale:)
Both rifles were a bit over 700 bucks each, both all together were 1510 delivered. Michael Stanton is the POC at ATI. YOU MUST BE 100% service connected and maybe it won't happen then, I was lucky and patient. If you can find a Tula this nice for 700 bucks then I would say yeah I got serviced. Didn't have to drive to Vegas... You won't get the R guns sling cleaning kit case. YOU get bolt rifle and scope, that's it. And ATI are still 797 if you not service connected. They appreciate our service.
These are not R guns there has been work done to the cocking knob that I have seen so far and the finish is 10X better. YOU will have to live with a post war stock.
The knob rides over a cam on the Rguns and sort of drags, these are ground about .125 in there is no drag. Besides that I don't see that much of a difference except the import mark isn't as intrusive. The trigger on my Rguns sucks these are what I would expect form a refurb. About 1/2 creep but past it it breaks ok.
Both scope mounts have the TUla Star on them as does one of the scopes, the 44 I think.
The 44 is tanged 43 has about 95% of the rifling left The scope number on the side indicates the scope was built in 43, it does have a refurb mark on it. I think the scope number was done by the East Germans since 44 Tulas didn't have the scope number on them. Or maybe by the Russian arsenal because the scope was '0'd
to that rifle. But since this is a refurb who knows there is a laser stamp on the barrel and on the bolt handle. By the E Germans
The 43 is pretty roughly ground on the recv'r I'll have to get pix of it. It is an actual Tula sniper.( I have Tula Sn 20 ex sniper and it has the top of a 2 where the scope stamp would be).. There is no doubt that it is a sniper. I will load pix of recv'r side and you can see the old scope stamp of a 5 on the rifle where the scope stamp was. T. Someone was in a big hurry on it. The scope doesn't look mounted right, kinda crooked the front sight is off to the left, alot. BUT The barrel is brand spanking new. It's so sharp you cold shave with it. The scope is an early 43 no year on it no refurb Ziess glass still in it. I think it may be a SVT conversion but I have to look closer.
I hope these are as accurate as my Rgun 44 Izhevsk That is the actual target that I used at 100 m, tell me Mosins are inaccurate junk. Hope this clears it up. I'll get a range test up when the temp is below 95.

Thanks Mantis. That does make sense. I have not had the pleasure to even hold one of these. I love the look of the snipers because we all kind of have our own mindset as to what a sniper rifle looks like. I admit most of my ideas about them come from tv. How many years of military service do you have under your belt? Did I read correctly in your profile that it was over 20 years? I too appreciate your service. I'll be looking for your range reports, and hopefully you can take some target pictures too. I have a variety of milsurps but with all iron sights I do my best shooting at 50 & 100 yds.

No not 20 years 3 years 8 months, and you are welcome it was my privilege and a honor to do so. Several bits of lead floating around in me, a nice tat made by a bayonet on an AK. And guess what? The 80s were a peace time army... I guess my betters forgot to inform me of this.
A really great closed head injury, gotta love those. Uncle takes care of me, but I did not think I was going to live this long, and I don't think he did either.
Combat range, in my time 1980s, was considered 150m. I think sniping as a tactic. A Sandinista with a SKS in a tree is a sniper a NVA in a building with an AK is a sniper. One man hold off a battalion, that's a sniper. It's just a tactic, at any distance it all depends on the guy looking through the sights, be it iron or glass.
