I feel like starting a hot thread

I wonder what home defense rounds you guys like. I just got a .40 cal Glock for target plinking and of course to have in the home in case TSHTF, pray that never happens. I got 4 boxes of Remington at a store clearance, 20% off, they had 5 boxes the other day so I got 2 then I thought this price is very good so I went back today and there was 2 left so I grabbed them. I lost one by not acting when I was there the last time. Picked up a couple of boxes of shotgun shells for the 12 & 20 ga.

#4 Buck shot in a 12 gauge works wonders.

Same round I always carry in the shotguns, double ought buck 12 gauge. For the sidearm I use Federal hydrashock .357 Magnum.

Buck shot in a .12 gauge pump with an extended magazine, a (legal) short barrel and a full stock.
I am a 1911 man, but the shotgun is what lives within reach of my bed.

The single round fired that hits the intended target and not the neighbors house or something a block down the street.

In my Glock G22 and G27 I am mandated to carry Winchester 180 grain Jacketed Hollow points. We started with 165 grain Federals but there were some issues with some of the people and their inability to shoot. I am a firm believer in the properly placeed shot as opposed to the "Spray and Pray" method that has come about as the result of the original "Wonder Nines" (High Capacity 9mm's). Shoot your pistol and find out what it likes, then conduct some tests with old phone books or maybe even a Ham. Yeah a real Ham not some reprocessed

In my 1991A1 I use a 185 grain HP and in the 357 Mag I use a 125 grain HP. These are the recommended self defense rounds for these two weapons. I am in the market for a slug barrel for my 12 gauge Remington 1100 that has rifle sights. When I finally buy it this will be stationed in the bed room loaded with #4 shot. I keep 4 speed loaders and two magazines with the hand guns and I may look for a mag extension for the 1100. I sure would hate for an uninvited guest to leave with out getting his fill at my house.

What matters here is, who else is in the house with you (your family). If you have other family members in the house, you may want something that looses most of it's energy when it hits a wall. You would really hate yourself if your round missed the bad guy and went through a wall and got your wife or child or maybe even a neighbor. Just keep that in mind.
It is one reason (along with others reasons) that many like a shotgun with the right load. That and it is harder to miss.
I use a Glock 45 with glazer rounds in it. It is basically a round with pellets inside and acts more like a shotgun than a handgun round. The glazer round looses most of it's energy when it hits a wall, but if it hits a "bad guy", it is pretty devastating as well.
I'm looking at shotguns now to replace it.

Don't shoot armor piercing bullets in the house period is my motto. There is to much risk with all the special ammo around no need to take a chance penetrating walls.JGC

Well my 44 Magnum (Western Marshall, inherited from my dad before he passed) is kept loaded with magnum hollow points with the hammer sitting on an empty chamber. On the wifes side of the bed there is a CZ 83 (380) loaded with Hydra-Shok's. There is a Remington 1100 12 guage upstairs in the gun room loaded with 00 buck, that the daughter can get too if needed.

Wow you are prepared for the Zombie attack. I need to find what is the meanest load in .40 cal so I can stop a Zombie without having to double tap.

Guess I need to take the plug out of the Mossberg and load it up with 4's maybe, not illegal if you never take it outside right?
You Tube teaches all sorts of things. A lot of times you see people with firearms that shouldn't be allowed to have a butter knife. Like that old redneck saying, hold my beer, you ain't gonna believe this sheet.

Saw a video of a young girl shooting a Desert Eagle in .50 cal I think. Man that was scary, people have these big boom sticks and have no gun safety knowledge at all. Scares me and I'm watching from a PC.

As a Police officer, I was taught to "Double Tap" I look at it this way, if it warrants shooting once, why NOT shoot it twice? I mean if you get that "Instant one shot STOP" (and I've seen that happen more than once) there is no need but I've been trained to fire two center mass so long it's "muscle memory"

Twice in the chest, once in the head, continue to engage the threat until it is down. That and don't freeze up, keep moving, seek cover is what I remember from learning to shoot a handgun defensively. My teacher was ex military, to him it was about killing the threat, I was told over and over to never shoot to wound, if you are going to shoot at all then shoot to kill, if you are just trying to wound him then you shouldn't be shooting at all.

For us civilians, we always refer to that Woody Harrelson classic movie " Zombieland" That's where they teach the double tap. Makes sense if you are under fire from a threat in your house or being accosted by Zombies. I am not into those stupid Zombie movies or TV shows, just Zombieland because it's funny as hell. Want to see a stupid but very funny movie then Zombieland is it.

there's my double tap.

12 Ga. Double Barrel , 00 Buck ,is a good double Tap combo, when combined with my wife and her double barrel .38 derringer because we both have CCW Permits. Double Trouble.
