I got interested in cast bullets some time back, but have not got real serous due to chambering problems with my rounds. To make sure that my rounds would chamber, I disassembled my Colt 1911 and used the barrel as a guage to make sure they fit, which some did, and some didn't. Because I wasn't sizing my cast bullets, nor using a Lee Factory Crimp Die I had a problem with a lot of them. I found this tool recently and it does what my barrel did, but does it better. It gives me the opportunity to final check my rounds before taking them to the range and having a huge disappointing day. It is real simple- the guage is machined to exact chamber specs and has the internal ridge that the case headspaces on. If it fits flush, it is good to go. If the rim protrudes then the round won't chamber in the gun, causing the slide not to lock into battery. If the bullet sticks out past the bottom then the bullet is not seated deep enough, and can cause the same problem.

Yup.
You do know a Lee sizer costs next to nothing, right? I use it with both tumble lube and grease groove boolits after pan lubing. There is no discernible difference in the quality of the load...

Very much worth it. Also, Alox was originally a metal protectant. I just keep some liquid alox around, and if I want to preserve metal, a thin coat goes on with a Q-Tip.

Yeah I just bought a Lee resizing kit in .311 and some 30 cal gas checks from Midway USA but the .452" was out of stock. I got it coming.

Dillon makes a similar tool and mine works great. I shoot a hard cast 185 grain SWC in my target guns and while overall length is not a problem, over sized bullets can be.

bunk if you are serious about casting for that 45 I'd take a nose dive on a RCBS Lube / Sizer and use a hard bullet lube on those ACP rounds. I size my cast at .452 and never have an issue with my 230 grain round nose bullets. Heck I even shoot them out of the Black Hawk 45 Colt. I hope to cast some this week end if I get the time. I have a Lee tumble lube setup too but have not used it much.

So far burrhead, all of the bullets I have cast have been either 228gr rn hp or 190gr swc, as these are the only molds I have. I also have several hundred cast and lubed bullets that I received from a friend but there are a couple of new molds I am going to buy. Eventually I'll add the lube sizer to my setup. I was also looking at the Lyman 4500 Setup.

Oh one more thing. I run a small operation and for lubing bullets the pan lube method has worked well.
