Interesting surprise…

Post by awalker1829 »

Had a guy come into the office and pay a fee with this:

The coworker who took the payment tipped me off as she knows I’m into antiques. I swapped her the face value of the note for it. Haven’t looked up what it’s worth, but it’s a lot more than the face value.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Somebody probably cleaned up someone's estate and had no clue what it was. Nice find :vcool: :vcool:
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Actually, he knew that it was a silver certificate and wanted the receipt to reflect that he paid with a silver certificate. He knew that it was worth more than face value and insisted on paying with it anyways. At a minimum, it's worth $20-30.

Mentally challenged? What possible purpose is there to giving the government more than what is owed?
