At 3:00 PM, it is 95F and 75% humidity, producing a heat index of 128F. I plan to go out and cut trees. (like hell I do!)
Even for someone who as lived a lifetime down here, that is damn hot, or as an old friend used to say, "It is hotter than the hinges on the gates of Hell)

I had 100 even at my house Monday. At 9 that night it was 88. I've lived here 65 yrs. and never seen 100 before and don't like it.

For the next week we are forecast an average high of about 98+. Starting tomorrow 97,98,100,97 98,100. Add the humidity and it gets quite unpleasant even for natives. It used to be that it didn't even think about hitting 100 until August.
When I was a kid, in the same spot, we worked in the tobacco fields this time of the year. In the mornings it could get chilly. Not any more.

It's a little strange here in Calif. We are in the middle of a drought.
One day it will be 98 and the next it will be 71. Back and forth. We are usually around mid 80's till July 4th. THEN it get hot (90's - 100).
BUT, at least we don't have that high humidity Steve.
Any day now they will start cutting off out electricity. They will either claim it is due to high fire danger and we need to shut off the electricity so it don't start any wild fires. Problem I have with that is, They turn off everyone's power. 90% of the people in Calif don't live in a "fire danger" area. There are no wild fires in the SF Bay Area.
or
They tell the truth and say they don't have enough power for everyone. Now, we have had a ton of people leave Calif, so why are we still short? The truth is, they have not build a new power station in Calif since the 1971's. Because they don't want Natural gas to continue. Don't like Nuke power. But, they want power! We re-called a Governor (Gray Davis) for not doing something about the power.

Just came back from my 1/4 mile round trip to the mailbox. Humidity on the front porch registers 80% (so no evaporative cooling). The sky is cloudless for now, temps predicted to go to 99 F. That produces a heat index of 153 degrees F. It will be rough for my 3:00 run....
Which reminds me, has anyone heard from Sonny lately? I was looking for an invitation to visit....

Forecast for today going for an actual temp of 104. If it makes it, it will match and all time record. Boys, I gotta tell you, with the humidity, that is freaking hot. Not a day to be a roofer or an asphalt layer for sure.
I am still waiting for Sonny to invite me up there for a week or so... (makes me wish I hadn't made such fun of our 51st state)
Edit: It looks like it only made it to 100, but at 6:00 PM, it is 98 in the shade of my front porch. Stepping into the sunshine is like standing in front of an oven.

3 days of 100 degrees. 4 more to go!.
Then down to 71degrees.
Can't go outside after 1 pm till around 8 or so.Just too damn hot.
Now I understand why we have all these wild fires. Spontaneous combustion!

I do know some people who drink all day.....Oh, you mean water, yes, I can see how that might be better for them. Here in high summer I am good for a gallon a day minimum, we have a wet heat most of the time.

We just went from 102 to 76 in one day.
It gives me a headache when the temps change like that, but I appreciate the lower temp. I can take an Excedrin!

I woke up this morning to 70 degrees. I promptly got on the mower for three hours while the getting was good.

We live on the Carolina Coast and the humidity the last two days was pretty high but not as bad as you have it in Florida. We had a big storm roll through yesterday afternoon right over our house, tons of thunder and lightning.

Sure would be nice if you southern boys could keep the heat down there.
This old Canuck does not like it this hot.
