The Mosin is back in Action

Post by ksbanker »

Apparently, some troops are being issued the Mosin Nagant and sent into battle, at least as a sniper.

I was watching the news one night and they were showing Ukrainian soldiers and they had the little oiler bottle out that we often see with the Mosin Nagant. It's interesting to see a lot of surplus still being used.

Not surprising, old doesn't mean ineffective when it comes to firearms unless they are broken. Beats the hell out of the WW2 Soviet way of sending men into combat with no rifle at all. I could inflict damage with any firearm in my collection including the flinters. Keep in mind that these Mosins are likely from the same stockpile that the Russians were selling as Molot, I think that was the name of the company.

The rifle will still kill as dead as it did in 1891 or 1942. The Russians are probably putting into hand that weren't trained with any firearm, ever. If I was a soldier, on a modern battlefield, I would be a bit pissed if issued with a 91/30, but I would not be unarmed.

I don't know about you folks but I was amazed that the Russian Army didn't take Ukraine in five days. It show how poorly trained, armed and led that the Russian Army was. I thought that they probably a lot tougher than that. I just wonder if all of those Russian Generals that have died there really got it in the back of the neck with a Nagant for failure. The Ukrainian people have been amazing in fighting the Bear to a standoff. I hope they end up running Putin's gang out of their entire country, including Crimea. Old Pooty needs to take a short drop off a tall scaffold.

What we are seeing is what the world saw when Germany invaded in 1941, Soviet army in retreat and collapsing. I don't see the Ukranian army invading Russia and committing endless atrocities to stiffen the Russian soldiers willingness to fight. I don't see Russian leadership improving anytime soon, because a real military leader would likely decide to first rid himself of Putin. Once the WW2 vets returned to the fields the Soviet army returned to what it always was, poorly led and equipped conscripts, we saw this in Afghanistan. The leadership let their soldiers roll around in the contaminated dirt of Chernobyl, and the soldiers themselves were too ignorant to understand what Chernobyl was and why it would be dangerous to play around there. That alone speaks volumes on the state of the Russian army.

Russian Army moral has to be at an all time low. Unless they got them wired on "pervitan" like the WWII Germans. Every time they get out of a vehicle to pee they get shot at. They know their country is against this. They are learning how dispensable they are, and they all thought they would be back home by now I betcha. And now what's to go home to ?
