Brazilian M1908

Ever since I sold most of my collection, I was remiss of selling my South American Mausers. A few I kept but not the Brazilian I had. I have been looking now for about two years to find one. The problem is that it is difficult to find them in good and matching condition without breaking the bank. The pristine examples are out of touch dollar-wise. But, recently I saw this one and it peaked my interest. I eventually won this rifle and for very cheap, I believe because it had a gouge in the stock on the right side near the bolt. I originally thought that I could fill this in but maybe I won't attempt this. Filling the gouge wouldn't be a huge issue but it would require some finish sanding that I don't want to attempt for fear of ruining the finish. I think I can live with it. Anyway, I took the risk that this would be a fully matching example and I lucked out.
This is a DWM, Oberndorf build which is pretty cool in and of itself. Every part matches, even the assembly number (49) on the rear sight base, receiver and barrel. All inspection stampings on the metal and the stock are crisp. The stock is not pristine although, with the exception of the gouge, it's not bad at all. The chamber, crown and bore are very nice. This rifle was at the tale end of the 2nd Brazilian contract which manufactured between 1912 and 1914. I have dated this rifle as a 1914 since the "Uu" in the serial number indicates a later production date.
All-in-all, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. And because it is not necessarily a showpiece, this one will be shot
