The hunting car.

Post by steelbuttplate »

This is the one of my dreams. I drove up to eastern Ky. north of Pikesville and drove it home. All it needs is paint and CV joints, practically everything else is new, brakes, brake lines, tires, alternator, starter, exhaust is 5 or so yrs old. Runs and drive super. This is the nicest coal miner car I've ever had, I'll probably drive it til I die. If Christie Brinkley pulls up beside me in this , I'll have to stop. I think I'll call him Earl :shifty:

Put some paneling on the sides to make them match. Or camo the whole thing.
Is that about an 85?
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It's a '95. I watched a guy paint a white door with two colors of paint and fuzzy mitts and make a realistic woodgrain on it. I've got the worst side painted white and ready. I thought about mossy oak but this way is pseudo original, if it turns out good I'll put clear coat on it. I've dug out all the fender rust and treated Iron oxide with Ospho, turning them into Iron phosphate. I think I'll put something like liquid Bed liner on those spots then the Buick color.

Aw hell just paint the whole wagon or the wood grain area in the old USAF ABU digital tiger stripe camouflage pattern. Or you could go with the proposed blue camo they tried to go with, didn't take long for it to get nixed, we blasted the idea and they canceled it. It'll be unique that's for sure, and the blue would look good with the blue main body paint.

Old ABU pattern first.
Blue concept pattern second.

You don't want to know how many of these I fed into the crusher. 1982-1996, A body, the 1991-96 header panel was a problem, they always ended up cracked, we never had good ones in stock. They are all gone up here now, I don't think I have had a call for anything on these cars in ten years or longer. The 90's cars are vanishing very quickly, a few pickups, one or two vans, my Rav4 is a 98, but that's an old lady car barn find. I have more customers in here for 1950's car parts than I do 90's now. Even early 2000's are thin on the ground.

Everyone you crush makes this one more collectable. I don't know haw many years this was available, but it has Wing glasses on each back corner, like used to be in the front of every car.

Not crushing anymore now as they are not coming in anymore. They made the same basic design from 1982-1996 as the Century, Celebrity and 6000 in two, four door and wagon. Engines changed along the way, some minor facelifts, but the overall look stayed the same.

About the time that I was heading out to boot camp, (1970) my old maid aunt painted her '57 Chevy two door with house paint and a 4" brush, chrome and all. She was a more than a little nutty. My Grandmother was with aunt Myrtle when she bought the car new. Grandma said that she was so embarrassed when my aunt pulled musty, moldy cash to pay for the thing. Grandma always wondered where my Aunt kept it. :)

Aunt Myrtle was a sweetheart, but I lied, she was not a little nutty, she was a crazy as a bedbug, but she provided me with a lifetime of stories.
She used to get in that '57 and drive it from Homestead, Fl., to Modesto, Ca. to visit family. She did the trip non-stop except for gas, at 30 MPH (her maximum speed). She packed her food and she apparently didn't need to sleep or pee. She once told me that she got stopped by a fake cop in Texas. I think that she got a ticket for driving too slow, but on subsequent trips she would drive around Texas. That is a big detour!

We heard about that fake cop until she died.

Nope, but check out Pinups for Vets, an organization supporting veterans, through pinup calender sales, and the brainchild of a woman.

Two more days and it's gonna have a new front drive train and brakes. Then I can start painting my "new" buick. I couldn't find one of these restored on eBay Motors, there was one on Edmunds for $11,000. I'm gonna make some cash on this'n in a few years :shifty: $$$

Looking good, you should have been into these fifteen years ago. Then I could have sold you a semi load of parts for them. I used a lot of these wagons as tool cars around the yard. Friend of mine had a Pontiac 6000, basically the same as the wagon, he ran that thing over 450,000 miles until the doors fell off. Not kidding, the doors on the front really did fall off, hinges wore and broke.
