Ammo Collectors; what have I got here?

I was out plundering in junk shops and came across this. I probably paid too much for it, but it was cool to me. 8 x 89 caliber, 1903 production date on one of the loose rounds. Wooden "simulation" bullets. They are loaded as I can hear the powder.

That was just too easy, Mike. I bet you wouldn't think it was a blank if you were standing in front of it. Mama would have to break out the tweesers.
What gun shot those, and do you need one for your collection?

Hard wood bullet, I bet that would put a real hurt on someone at close range, maybe even lethal.

This may spread some further light on what it was probably made for. Sound like a Crop-o-shit rifle which may be why it was only made for three years....

Could always use one, I can use it as an excuse like I do bayonets. Honey I need a rifle to go with the bayonet......Now I could say I need a rifle and bayonet to go with an ammo example I have....

Vampire bullets. Thru the heart. Maybe you could shoot a busted chair back together with them Steve, or plug a hole in that boat you made.

Three years? The Portuguese made them for a dozen years and the French used the Kropatschek rifle for decades-the M1886 Lebel rifle is a Kropatschek rifle. The cartridge design was its big issue.

Many countries made training ammunition with wooden bullets. They give the same performance as regular ammunition with reduced risk of the bullet injuring someone, as it won’t penetrate a wall at long range. At close range, it would most certainly be lethal to an animal or human.
