No further importation of surplus ammo to the U.S.?

Trying to nail down whether or not this is true: that importation of surplus 7.62x54r ammo has been (permanently?) halted to the U.S.
Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

No idea, but after 30 years of Finn, Russian, and buffer states dumping 7.62x54r here by the millions of rounds, and all of us shooting it up, there can't be much left for them to export. Remember also that we are just one country that imported Mosins, and ammo, and the Russians have a use for it themselves, so do the Ukrainians.

Thanks for the response. That's a helpful perspective.

If the Russians run short, Jim can sell them enough for a short war without getting into his strategic reserve.

Hell, Jim will sell it to both sides and still have extra.

Sell it to them packed with C4 instead of powder like they liked to leave for our boys in Vietnam.

I have read about US Spec Ops leaving that sort of sabotaged ammo for the Viet Cong to find, but have never heard of the opposite happening. I believe I read that in an American Rifleman article.

They would sabotage type 53's by replacing the bolts with one weakened, and sure to fail, then leave the rifle were US troops would find it. At some point anything that could be made into a booby trap was used by somebody.

Why, Jim, that sure sounds mean and despicable! You could blind a fellow that way. ;)
So would a rifle primer set off C4?

Don't know, lets see if we can find someone to try it, maybe that Florida man, or woman I was told about who's worse than Bubba. Not sure of it as I haven't met these mythical people myself yet.

I don't know what goes bang in a primer, but the minimum charge to set off C4 is .2 grams of lead azide. Bullet impact won't , neither will throwing it off a building. Tannerite on the other hand

will bang when you bang it. I guess if you had to, you could stick a muzzle of an old worn out gun in the C4 and set it off with a string.

Guy I know who is a RR electrician down in the city told me a coworker of his found a 25 round box of 12 gauge birdshot at a flea market for $200 and bought it. ONE 25 round box, but it gets better, he does not own a shotgun, 12 gauge or otherwise, or any other gun. I thought two weeks ago 20 round box of 45/70 my friend saw at a Florida flea market for $75 was a thing of wonder ( and he saw somebody buy it) What next?

I would sell an unopened case of birdshot for that money. My bird shooting days are behind me, it is too much like work.

Canadian supply of 7.62x54 seems still available but prices have risen steadily over the last couple years. No rumours here about a shortage, but we now see lots of Chinese stuff. I bought a number of cases of Russian 880 rds at $270 Cdn (so say US $210 ) plus shipping. Now $435+ for the same (so say $325 US) again plus shipping. I bought and shot so much that the UPS driver got to know me real well, said he was coming to my house when TSHTF. If he only knew .. I have a wine cellar too!
Our shortages are driven by the US shortages .. and the resulting price increases. Lots of 22 available, a fair amount of 9mm and some 556 and 762 Nato. I can't find 45ACP or 38 Super but otherwise no shortages at my house. Haven't seen any panic pricing here though, no $200 shot shells.

Hey fellow Canuck there's still lots of 45acp out there and I think Bullseye in Ontario has the best deal.

The $200 shotshell crap happens when people who know nothing about guns, never before contemplated owning one, all of a sudden panic at the idea that maybe the police can't protect them. They panic, they don't care about the money, they just want a gun, any gun because they are all the same aren't they? If they have to start with the ammo first that's fine. If they have to outspend every other like minded idiot to get that gun and ammo then they will.

You guys know they still make 7.62x54R for both military and 'sporting' use over there, right? The main GPMG of Russia and most of her former 'republics', the "Pechneg' is still 7.62x54R, and will be around that area of the world for a long time yet.

Wolf ammo is still around and it is made in Russia.
