I am a new member, pleased to join the site and to further my knowledge of MNs thru the experienced collectors of this forum.

A number of years ago I purchased a 1918 Remington M91 in excellent condition, CAI import marked, SA marked,WW2 wartime stock, Finnish dog collars, early cloth sling. As it turned out, it was accompanied by a Panshin bayonet, excellent condition. I understand Finland purchased MN firearms from various countries in the 1920s and 1930s,but have no info on panshins purchase by Finland. Interestingly, I have read that other collectors have also purchased 1918 M91 Rems with pahshins as well.

I would appreciate forum members views as to any historical backstory of how these rifles and bayonets were bundled together.
Regards,

Finland was part of Russia prior to 1918, they declared independence during the Russian revolution, and after a vicious internal fight against Finnish communists they gained their freedom. They inherited the contents of Czarist armorys that were on Finn territory, this included M91's and all other weapon types then in use by Russia, rifles, bayonets, machine guns, whatever. After the war the purchased more M91's from Germany who had captured them during the Great War. They bought yet more from the Germans during the second war. Then you have the Winter War of 1939-40 were hundreds of thousands of weapons were captured from the Soviets, likely M91's were captured here as well. Any type of Russian bayonet made between 1892, and 1944 could easily have ended up in Finn hands. Welcome to the board.
