Did you ever buy a gun just to help someone out? Yeah that's what I did today.

Guy here in town is having wife problems and he's pretty sure she's going to pull the pin and leave him. Not going into details but he is selling some guns just so she can't get half of them. So I bought a 1954 Tula SKS from him just to give him some cash.

Man oh man was it friggin' dirty. I don't think he cleaned it very often but I spent an hour on it and now it looks pretty good.

All numbers match except the mag and it shoots pretty good as in a minute of pie plate.
I'll just put it in the safe with my others for now and see what happens in a few years..

btw... the price of SKS's has doubled up here in the last couple of years. Gone are the days when you could pick one up for $199 now for a Russian hardwood stock you will pay between $399 - $449. Chinese are still around the $300 mark.

depending on how much you "helped" him, looks like a good grab................

I know that guy, I know more than one of that poor fuck. The three D's, Death, Divorce, and Destitution, of the three Divorce is the main reason I ended up buying several collections, and many individual buys back in the day. This is because even if he keeps the guns divorce often leads to destitution. It's not as common now that I am older, now death is creeping up as the main reason, I ended up selling off two small collections in recent days due to the death of the owner. They bring them to me because they think this is still 1988 and I will just start peeling bills off the roll to buy them all like I did back in the day. Fuck that, it's all stuff I mostly have, I will help find a new owner for it, but that's it. Some of it sold here to board members. You have to work hard to find something I don't already have to tempt me with these days.

I gave him about 80% of market value but that was still more than he paid for it plus it was instant cash for him and a good deal for me so we were both pleased with the deal.
Keep in mind that if he was a friend I would have paid more than market value and I would have given him a buy back option if his situation improved.

I hate to see couples break up but sometimes that's the best thing to do for both of them.

I have bought firearms from people who needed quick cash more than I needed a new gun. I usually hold on to them for some time just in case the seller might have a change of situation or a change of heart.

The SKS, Chinese or not, can't be bought around here for under $400.00.
