Pointy Thing for P1853

Post by ffuries »

So the beat up P1853 Enfield bayonet for my 1863 Snider-Enfield showed up today. Got a little surprise when cleaning it up. I can make out a W A with a B 54 under that. With all the looking I did I could only find one maker with those initials. R & W A or Richard & William Aston.

Picture 1 is an internet shot I stole to show the complete R & W A marking for comparison to the partial one on mine.

Don't rifles look so much better with their pointy things attached. Just need a reproduction sling for her and she's 100% complete and proper.

Careful you don't put your eye out with that thing.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Between this one, the Swiss Vetterli and the Mosin Nagants (3 M91s, 4 M91/30s and 3 M44s) the wife said you can invite friends over for roasting marshmallows and weenies. Smart ass......

Debating whether to look for a scabbard for it.
