Undated Russian SKS
I recently purchased a IMHO a beautiful Russian SKS all of the numbers match except the handguard gas tube which is electropenciled it has a small Tula star below the wood line on the left side on the receiver , The receiver cover has only the refurbished mark on the cover it has no date or factory marks on the cover just on the right side of the receiver is CCCP and a different number the other numbers that are on the barrel, trigger guard, bolt and carrier has the serial numbers starting with two letters and 4 numbers CO 62-- I am hoping that someone here in the forums would be able to tell me what year it might be thanks

That's one of the years that Russia was so drunk they didn't know what year it was. 1950 something. I think they all have 2 letters and 4 digits, unless there is a date on the tang or bottom of barrel , it's a 19

I don't know either, but there might be a date somewhere under the wood

Re: Undated Russian SKS
My reading would indicate it is a late Tula sks, like 1955 or 1956.
Here is an interesting article on the SKS generally...

Per the SKS Files:
Russian Letter Series
The Russian letter series are a very unique and collectable example of the Russian Sks 45. The reason they are called letter series is because the serial number is followed by one of three Russian letters. As of right now the current research suggests that the letters correspond with years, before the letter series there are 7 other dated years, 1949-1955 and two years of rifles produced in a factory called Izhevsk in 1953-54. After 1955 the Russians went to a different method of dating the carbines the first year was
