Romainian M44 Carbine (HELP)

Post by Raven2020 »

Hello,
I recently purchased a Romainian M44 Carbine from a family member, Ive known that the Romainian version of the M44 is rare and have always wanted to add 1 to the collection. The rifle in question is dated 1954 and to my surprise is a numbers matching carbine on all major parts except for the metal butt plate , which tells me the stock was replaced. One thing that makes it interesting is the stock has IPL stincled in white letters on the left and 94 stincled on the right, The other interesting thing is that it is a Single Digit serial numbered gun (BZ *). Can anyone please tell my what doese the IPL mean as for 94 I would assume its a rack number. Exactly how rare is the Carbine? Ive never seen a single digit sn Romainian M44, much less a numbers matching untouched condition rifle . Please help

Not particularly rare since it isn't totally matching. I think you are correct that it was restocked, probably at Cugir, Romania during a refurbishment. Finding them with matching bolts is a plus though. The IPL is probably some kind of rack ID from where the rifle in the original stock was used. Nice looking gun though.
