More Demo Work......

Since around 2006, this large shadow box or display case has been a center point in our house. After Hurricane Michael roared through we took everything down and toted it up for safe keeping and to allow repairs. We recently made the decision, that if we remain here, to convert the garage and make it the office / gunroom / militaria room / man-cave.

Today while I was trying to relax and watch some TV, CINC Household decided she was ready to get a jump on the demo. Contractor is supposed to be here next week to start some of the work.

It's weird looking at the opening now and thinking that for so many years it was a shadow box, and prior to that we had placed accordian curtains up so it could be closed off. Now it's wide open again for the first time since around 1997 or so.

It's a weird wall that's for sure, first off it's a half wall dividing the living room and dining room. There is a pole at the end of the wall and I'm trying to figure out if it's a structural pole (Load bearing) or not. Then when the house was built they didn't set the wall back far enough from the step down, so when they added the drywall and baseboard it extended over the step.

Picture 1 shows it as it looked when it was a giant shadow box.
Picture 2 shows it as it looked after we toted everything up.
Picture 3 shows it after the demo and clean-up.
Picture 4 shows how they screwed the wall up and how drywall floats above the carpet.

Good luck, not sure what a " Man Cave" is. For years I assumed it was a euphemism for bathroom, but now it sounds like my entire place is a man cave.

Yes it did, we were going to put some decorative iron work or something back in. After looking at last it night for a while, we are thinking of leaving it open.

Might sound stupid, but even just the removing of the shelves, makes it seem brighter in here.
