milsurp sales
Last fall early this yr, sales were dropping and prices were down. I thought when the
it would bottom out, with so many people out of work. It looks like just the opposite. I ve seen several 91/30' and others sell as high as they've ever got, so I put an M-38 on GB, already got 6 bid with 6 days to go. Maybe its the un prepared getting prepped or people that were border line anti gun realizing they need one. Opinions ?

Re: milsurp sales
Prices do seem to be up. In Tallahassee we are fortunate to have a local company that specializes in on-line militaria auctions. The owner travels around the country and picks up some very nice/large collections. Several times a year he’ll have auctions and in fact, he just had one a couple of weeks ago. I dialed in always looking to see if there is a deal to be had...nope! I think the quarantine has folks bored out of their minds and they are just looking for something to do and they are bidding accordingly.

How many times have I said this ? In bad times it's canned food and shotguns time, demand for firearms of any kind go up. Right now we are in bad times, and pretty much everyone knows it's going to get worse no matter if they admit it or not. People saw their local food stores being stripped, people beating on each other for the last can of potted meat. They see that shit and realize they are not safe at all, time to arm up. It started here the day the governor closed the state, the gun shops were stripped, I am constantly getting people asking were to buy a gun, any gun.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

BryanJ....who is the auction house in your town ?
Re: milsurp sales
It's a dead cat bounce; caused by too much "free" money. Crash is usually hard after a dead cat bounce.

Not BryanJ and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn last night either.........But he might be talking about Centurion Auctions in Tallahassee. They are big in Miliataria, Military Surplus and Commerial Weapon auctions.

I'll never buy from Centurian again. One the prices went high on everything. The two lots I did buy not only did I get hit with the standard 20% but then they doubled the shipping cost as well.ffuries wrote:Not BryanJ and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn last night either.........But he might be talking about Centurion Auctions in Tallahassee. Re: milsurp sales
There are two big auction houses in Tallahassee. The other one is "Affiliated."
They both have some outstanding firearms, but as with all live auctions the prices can get crazy. You also have to make sure you know what all of the cost are above what you bid, or you could get skinned on what appeared to be a good deal. What you bid, is not what you pay.

Dead cat no bounce. There like dropping a fur covered piece of liver, no bounce. Possum drop in Brasstown NC, he don't bounce either.

They go "plop". This isn't your regular economic panic, either. It's driven by a true health emergency and there will be no rebound until the health emergency has passed (which it hasn't). I am involved in the museum and tourist railroad industry and I am seeing far too many groups rushing to reopen. The museums I am affiliated with are not reopening to the public for now-we are watching the local health statistics and re-evaluating the situation every two weeks or so. So far, we are not seeing anything that suggests that the situation here is improving to the extent that we can reopen the museums to the public without creating substantial risk exposure to our organization. We may reopen to volunteers in June to allow work to resume, once safeguards are put in place to minimize exposure risk.steelbuttplate wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 5:28 pmDead cat no bounce. One thing that many businesses do not realize is that their commercial insurance policy almost always exempts claims related to contagious diseases from coverage. Walmart is already dealing with wrongful death claims from survivors of deceased employees and is now reducing the number of customers per store to 25% of normal capacity or less, depending on the square footage of each store. I expect many other retailers will follow suit.

Remember in the sixties when Detroit and Oakland were burning? You couldn’t find a shotgun shell anywhere. Of course we were limited to the bait and tackle store along with Western Auto or Local Hardware.

Well it looks like Covid is dead since even Blue States are reopening. Kind of tough not to when CDC states only 6% of Covid deaths were caused by Covid alone. Also now that Dems figured out rioting helps Trump that is dying off too. So inventories should increase.

Hello, Yea, well...
IMO, Not anytime soon nor after the election.... have you looked for primers lately? $0.14 per SR primer if found.
The least expensive round for me too shoot right now is surplus 7.62x54R. Sure, glad I bought crates of it when it was dirt cheap; less expensive than buying quality 22lr is right now.
No, it's going to be some time before anything comes back around. Yet, living in Ca. has made us hoarders of stuff... Thanks Galvin, for giving us a leg up/headstart on most people.

Re: milsurp sales
Not a milsurp exactly, anyone notice the Yugo folders we could buy in 2004 for $600.00 (that seemed kind of high at the time) are selling, closed auction, people bought the item, on GB for $1500.00 dollars right now?steelbuttplate wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 5:28 pmDead cat no bounce. My local gun stores say that yes, gun sales are high right now, but their shortage of inventory is also caused by a shortage of supply. They said that many gun manufacturers both stateside and worldwide shut down for COVID and importation is restricted for COVID as well. They cannot sell what they cannot get! Many gun stores are really hurting right now.

Re: milsurp sales
I've never seen so much local militia buzz on the web, no telling how many groups are going armed into the cities where riots are to stand watch at night. Lots of business owners have had enough too. That means more shootings to come. Junk Yards in New York are their next target. One of the big Walmarts around here, yesterday, had 3 guns in their case.AMCHornet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 12:59 am My local gun stores say that yes, gun sales are high right now, but their shortage of inventory is also caused by a shortage of supply.
