A snake in my drawers

Yep, I keep a Cobra in my right hand drawer underneath my keyboard. A 1965 production Cobra LW (lightweight) Aluminum alloy frame. This is quite similar to the Cobra that Jack Ruby used. (but Ruby's had a shroud on the hammer, and sold to a collector in N.J. for $200K; I paid a little less for mine)

This gun spends most of its time in my desk drawer, beside Mama's, S&W mod. 10-6, but gets a ride in my pants pocket if I am in to much of a hurry to holster up with my Colt Defender. If I am feeling retro and I am wearing a jacket I will carry it in a cross draw fashion in the holster in the photo.

Loaded with six rounds of .38 hollow points, it says "get off me" with authority. Of course I plink with low-powered ball ammo, as Colt does not recommend +P loads for these, but I have no doubt that it would fire six of them without a problem. For a short revolver this gun points and shoots well with its decent sights. Folks with gorilla hands may have trouble with the small grips, but they work fine for me.

Though I depend on a good semi-auto pistol for my primary carry, these old wheel guns still have a relevant place in self defense. With this gun readily available, I certainly do not feel unarmed.

And, yes, it is nice to be able to claim that I have a snake in my drawers without lying!

All of those little detective style revolvers are as cool as can be. I would love to have one. The closest I ever came was a Rossi 5 shot 38. I don't have it anymore and can't remember what I did with it. Probably a trade long ago. If it had been a Colt I would remember, and likely still have it.

I saw the title and was hesitant to open this post. I wouldn't put it past Steve for this to have been a different topic.

Isn't that the truth!

I keep a Bulldog in my drawers.
It's my Dad's bulldog and he kept it in his drawers also. So, 2 generations!
LOL

You know, I used to kill about a half dozen of those critters a year around my house and barn. I must have thinned them out pretty well. I haven't seen a Diamondback in several years. If I hang out around the swamp or the stream it is not unusual to stir up a Copperhead or a Moccasin, but they usually stay down the hill and I stay up the hill so we have a copacetic relationship. I won't even kill the Diamondbacks unless they are in a place where I come and go often.

It may or may not be related, but I have had several pairs of Red Tail Hawks nesting near the house for the past few years, it may be them that have reduced the Diamond Backs, especially in the areas I keep mowed. A month or so ago, my wife and I were driving to town, and about a mile from the house we saw a hawk flying off with about a 4' snake. It was too far to identify the species.

We have also been seeing a lot more Bald Eagles in the area, I suspect they also keep the snakes down.
