Interesting 50 cal ammo can

Post by racerguy00 »

A friend sent me an interesting ammo can yesterday. I'd seen one long ago online but it's the first I've seen in person.
Too bad it's not filled!

Cool, the B-52 aka the BUFF Big Ugly Fat F..ker.

BUFF joke, when they retired the B-1 there was a B-52 crew on hand to bring home the last crew, they say when they retire the B-2 there will be a B-52 on hand to bring the crew home.

There are families with 3 generations that have flown the B-52, I guess they can say this IS your granddad's plane!

Boeing seems to have forgotten how to build airplanes now days.

How many gun positions did a B-52 have?

Hmm......

One, with either 4 M3 machine guns, then later one 20mm M61 Vulcan cannon, then they castrated them.

Here's a picture of a BUFF that had a bad day, landed, was repaired by depot and eventually returned to service.

That is a impressive B52 picture Mike. I notice the gear is down. I bet there was a few prayers going on by the crew hoping to touch ground safely ASAP! This reminds me of a book I read years ago. Flight of the Old Dog. A great read by a excellent author.
I wish I had grabbed one of these B52 ammo cans a few years ago when I saw them online.

Anyone know if any B52's ever shot down or forced any attacking MIG's to break off an attack over South East Asia?

Yes, there were at least two B-52 vs MIG tailgunner victories. I dont recall the details however.
