Yes, she is ugly but kinda cool too.

Post by Longcolt44 »

I pieced this rifle together from hard to find parts on line and different gun shows over the last year and a half. Ugly you say? Yes but ugly cool and very different too.

The VZ 52 was semi auto rifle made shortly after the second world war in Czechoslovakia. It fires the unique 7.62X45 cartridge. Due to Russian pressure, later models will be found in 7.62X39 but are very rare and hard to find.

Copied from Wikipedia.
‘The vz. 52 is a shoulder-fired semi-automatic rifle with a tilting-bolt locking mechanism powered by an annular short-stroke gas piston system. The bolt is locked by two lugs that recess into slots machined into the receiver. However, unlike most vertically-locking breech mechanism, the rifle's bolt has the unusual feature of tipping the bolt frontally to lock the mechanism, whereas other tipping bolt designs tip the bolt to the rear.[7] The piston is actuated by residual gases from the bore, vented into a sleeve surrounding the barrel to overcome the inertia of the bolt carrier, bolt and the resistance of the return spring in order to unlock the chamber, eject the empty cartridge casing and then introduce a new round into the chamber upon return to battery.
The barrel is press-fit and pinned into the receiver. The manual safety switch is placed inside of the trigger guard and is manipulated by the shooter's index finger. The trigger mechanism closely resembles that used in the American M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle. The cocking handle is integrated into the bolt carrier and is located on the right side of the rifle; this arrangement enables the shooter to reload the rifle without disturbing his aim.”

Nice to see one without the Rhino Liner.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

These guns always intrigued me, as well as the caliber. I never was able to find one in relatively good condition. This one looks pretty cool. Ugly? Really, I've found very few, if any, Milsurps that I'd call ugly. Nice gun.

Last rifle I was looking for before I cut myself off buying anything new.

They have to be fun to fire! I don't think it is ugly at all. I like it!
