My Romanian M44 has a lightly pitted bore.
After intense cleaning the rifle shoots worse now than before the major cleaning.
My question is, since I have been using.311 dia. Bullets, should I step up to a .312 ?

How much worse ? 12 inch groups at 20 yd ?, or 1/2 inch bigger group @ 75 yd. You Tried different ammo brands ? These carbines aren't target rifles, if your getting a 5 inch group or less at 100 that's about average I think. If you use some clean ammo the pitting will fill with copper somewhat if you just run a dry or oil patch thru after shooting. If the pitting is in the grooves it shouldn't affect it.

That’s my plan. I’m going to try my reloads in a different rifle to get a comparison in groups. Then I’m going to let the M44 dirty up a bit and see if my groups tighten.
I’m also seeing some overpressure signs on my primers. A tiny bit of cratering around the firing pin dent and flattened primer faces.
Time to back my loads down a bit.
