My youngest son and I shot the match with our Ljungmans. As usual, he kicked my *****.

Match is 40 rounds, 10 rounds each at chickens (220 yards), pigs (330 yards), turkeys (420 yards), and rams (550 yards), shot with military semi auto rifles. Match winner come from the "as issued" vintage class.

Here's a pic of the range...

As you can see from the results sheet, there ain't much "vintage" left in the "vintage" match.

I never had much ammo for it to do much shooting, but the AG42b is a cool rifle. SHot the Hakim more, 7.92mm Mauser is easier to come by, and cheaper, cheaper being the important part.

Lots of PPU 6.5 x 55.. 140 gr softpoint up here but it's still pricey in a semi auto.

But chickens at 220 yards... lol my eyes ain't that good. :D

It does look like fun tho… good for you.

I've been working on a load for my Hakim for that match, but so far, when push comes to shove, the Ljungman is still more accurate than my Hakim.

I've got a decent supply of 6.5 x 55 brass and shoot reloads using 4064 and 140 gr Nosler Custom competition bullets.

Thanks, Sonny.

I've shot the PPU ammo (it is my primary source of 6.5 x 55 brass), but mostly use reloads for the Ljungman. It seems that most 6.5 x 55 commercial ammo is loaded with slow burning powders, which makes sense for that cartridge fired in a bolt gun (as most 6.5 swede rifles are). But that ammo with slow burning powder results in very high port pressure and brisk (almost violent) extraction/ejection. Hard on the rifle and very hard on the brass.

I did some load development using medium burning powder like you would use in a Garand and managed to tame that extraction/ejection sequence, while maintaining accuracy.

200 yards is driving distance for me.
