Remington Model 1889 12 gauge double barrel shotgun grade 1

Post by Junk Yard Dog »

New addition to my double gun collection, Remington grade 1 1889 Double barrel 12 gauge shotgun with exposed hammers, early serial number put it around 1894 Rock solid action with zero play, it's even slightly stiff to close as if it was made yesterday rather that 120+ years ago. Matching number, like new buttplate, no cracks in the stock, no dents in the barrels, locks working perfectly, even silver patina, slight pitting in the tubes, 30" barrels. Remington had 7-8 grades of 1889 , grade one meant regular steel tubes, this was considered the cheap option of that time, but was also the strongest once smokeless powders came along. Grade two and three are the same gun as one but with twist steel ,and Damascus steel barrels, the higher grades are all about fancy engraving. 2 5/8 chamber, this can be fired using lower pressure smokeless loads.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
