Rifle with no bolt....

Post by 2700fps »

Thinking of buying a Mosin with no bolt. Bad idea?

If I do and buy a complete bolt from a parts store, how will I know before I receive it if the head space is correct?

I do own a NO GO and a FIELD gauge....

Thanks

No crystal ball needed. Buy the bolt, check the headspace. Most likely you will be good. If not, buy bolt heads till you are good on the field.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

You won't know until you test it. These are getting harder and harder to find now and they are getting kind of pricey because of it. Consider, when it's all said and done, a bolt costing you about $75. With this in mind, the rifle you purchase should be pretty cheap. I suppose, if it were me, I'd go for a matching (force matched) refurb. There's a ton of them out there and if patient you should be able to find one for less than most of the GunBroker sellers are listing them for...

Unless you get the rifle dirt cheap I would pass.
