2 carcanos

Post by JC 762 »

I pick these up recently at a slightly out of the way shop .I had been looking for a Carcano for awhile ,the only things I came across were sporterized and over priced .These two were look like they were stored in a basement or closet and forgotten about for the 50 years.I am in the process of cleaning them up.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Check the carbine for an [SA] stamp. The Italians made some of these for the Finns until they thought about killing Russians for Mosins.

No SA mark for the carbine. Seller had it marked as 7.35 ,I had questioned him on it .His reply was it looks too big to be 6mm. He put a gauge in the muzzle and muttered 2 something ,close enough 7.35 .I almost left it behind .It is a terni dated 1936 . When I got home I tried a 7mm08 bullet in the muzzle end and it didn`t fit all the way. On the paper work he listed it as a m38 in 7.35 and the m41 as a m44.I cleaned the carbine up most of the surface rust came off ,there is some frost visible on the magazine housing though. The M41 had on spot of pitting on the barrel with most of it under the wood .the stock needs some more cleaning and a reoiling. Luckily the barrels and bolts were still in cosmoline.

Those should be both 6.5 Carcano.
