Saw this and had to have it, a Chiappa M1-9. This one is in a polymer stock, they were available in wood initially, and is a direct copy of the little War Babies we cherish so much. Caliber is 9mm with 10 round magazine and with an adapter available from Chiappa they will accept 15 round Beretta magazines as this one has. The front and rear sights are direct copies of the originals on the M1 Carbine. It has an original M1 Carbine sling and even has an original oiler in the stock cut out. I haven't shot it as yet but it is on the list to go to the club when the snow quits falling and the temp gets above 50. Enjoy.

Do you know if these are straight blow back action, or does it have the gas system like the original M-1? I have seen these in .22lr I think. Nice little rifle. Would be interesting to chronograph the 9x19 loads out of the carbine length barrel. Ruger is now making a PC-9 that looks to be about the same length.

It has a blow back system. We have a Ruger PC-9 at the shop too, I just liked this better.

It is pretty slick that they made it in readily and cheaply available 9MM. I bet that there is not a lot of difference in the performance of the two rounds. I like that rifle.

More than one M1 carbine clone wears the Universal name. One is a piece of crap, mostly due to not following the original carbine design, the other is a true copy and works well. I have had both, but now only have one, bet you can guess the one I kept.

9mm is a great carbine caliber for just good ole fun time at the range. Ammo is cheap and the 9mm has ample power in a carbine length barrel. I have seen the Ruger and even the take down model but not this Chiappa. It looks cool being a M1 copy with the op-rod and sights. I have a old Hi Point 995 that is a hoot.

Used a friends 995 a while back and was shocked at how accurate it was, even way beyond the range of what I thought a 9mm round would carry.

I think I owned that carbine Jim... After the heat shield come loose and the bolt/ carrier sent it back into my forehead cutting a good gash I sent it down the road.

Yea, they were making some real crap for awhile. I bought that one off a guy who was snorting so much blow I figured I was doing a public service getting it away from him, not that it cost me much. That guy was financing his habit selling the candy to others ( I know the nicest people), and was buying by the key yet somehow with all the major drug busts that went down in the 80's, and 90's he escaped the DEA. He ended up getting busted twice for DUI, once for domestic battery, locked up for a bit, losing everything he had and is now in the final stages of drinking himself to death. There is a lesson here in this story, don't buy firearms of questionable or unknown quality off of someone with a known history of making poor choices.
