Another thread trying to verify a M91-30 sniper rifle
I've come across a scoped 91-30 rifle being sold as a legit sniper. I read over the "Fake_Snipers" page before I went to look at it. Scope screws looked good to me as did the stock wood. The bolt handle I'm not so sure about, and now I wish I had taken more pictures of the bolt handle.
If you all could look over the pictures and let me know what you think about it I would definitely appreciate it.
Thanks!
Ray

Re: Another thread trying to verify a M91-30 sniper rifle
The date of 1940? They did not manufacture the PU until 1942, fake. By the way they translated the first three digits of the serial this is an earlier Century import, they made many fake snipers back in the day. Also note what looks like a Finn SA on it, The look of the rifle doesn't match what I would expect from one of the Finn used 91/30's. That means they just happened to use a Finn marked 91/30 barreled action when they built the fake sniper, or someone playing with the now available SA stamp put it on there. Unless it's a fifty bucks for the parts that are still usable I would avoid this like it carried Ebola.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yep. I went back and re-read the "Fake_Sniper" page and found a few things I missed including the scope mount and the years of production too. I figured it would be a fake, but I've never seen a real or fake one so this was a good learning experience for me. I wish I had gotten a picture of the import mark and the top of the scope.

Mount is wrong. Too smoothe and notice the mounting part is squared off on both the base and the mount. That is wrong.
should look like this.

Not like this

That SA was probably put on a captured 1940 M91/30. Then it was faked to this. Finn's rarly used sniper rifles.
I have never seen a bolt handle taper off as it gets to the ball on the end.
I'm pretty sure the bolt is wrong because of the bend part.
As Jim said, they didn't make a PU in 1940

Number on the bolt is absolutely wrong. Instead of second letter from prefix there is "4"
(and first letter is missing
)
(and first letter is missing

The good thing is this is a thread about a rifle you saw not about a rifle you bought

A blind man in a dark room might notice the differences just by feel. I am no expert but holy cow...
Sad thing is someone will buy it.

Re: Another thread trying to verify a M91-30 sniper rifle
There is about 2 dozen or more items that have to be "right" to be "real".
But, there are really more if you know what to look for. Most of the guys on the forums here know what is "wrong" with a potential sniper rifle. But there is also what is "right" with a "real" one that counts. Usually if you spot one thing wrong, then the rifle is probably a "fake". And you will probably find more wrong items on it.
There are only a couple people I would trust in evaluating a PU sniper rifle if it is a tough one. The blatant items are easy to see. The small items are not.

I like the CH stamp below the serial. Somebody thought they were an expert.

That's true.DirtyEd wrote:I like the CH stamp below the serial. Somebody thought they were an expert.
The CH or CN should be at the top and is a sniper designation if on a Tula sniper. Not a Izhevsk sniper as this one is. Pretty sad thing to do.

Isn't the Cyrillic prefix ПУ?,. which translates as "PU"Miller Tyme wrote:Thats not CH, thats GCH, and is the imports translation on the crylic prefix on the s/nDirtyEd wrote:I like the CH stamp below the serial. Somebody thought they were an expert.

I have not seen translations done on top of the receiver. Why use three letters to translate two incorrectly. Be interesting to know who the importer was.

The GCH appears to be a bad translation of the Cryllic "ny", n should be P as you say but "y" translates to CH. It appears the importer missread the 1st letter as r wich translates to "G". But even translated incorrectly the S/N of record for importation and resale is GCH2375.

You're right, I got my Cyrillic alphabet mixed up......Miller Tyme wrote:Snayperskaya wrote:Isn't the Cyrillic prefix ПУ?,. which translates as "PU"Miller Tyme wrote:Thats not CH, thats GCH, and is the imports translation on the crylic prefix on the s/nDirtyEd wrote:I like the CH stamp below the serial.
