I went out on a limb this weekend and bid on a Swedish M41B at an online estate auction. The auction pics were few and not that great and the description very spare, but I bid accordingly.

Here are the pics...

Description advised that it is a "Mauser Carl Gustafs 1899 Sniper Rifle".

I'll post better pics and description when I get it.

Tough to find one these days with the base and mount matching, a big plus! These were used up until the 90s in Bosnia. The Swedes rebuilt the German Ajack scopes in the mid 50s. Mine holds zero even after pulling the scope and mount off of the base several times. You won't find a more accurate bolt action sniper rifle. The 8" steel plate at the 600 yard mark at the Henry County Gun Range will attest to that.

Nice rifle. I had an opportunity to buy one of those years ago for cheap and passed. THAT was a mistake!

Thanks, guys.

I spoke to the owner of the gunshop that is handling the transfer/shipping for the auction house today and they assured me that they used large amounts of bubble wrap and packing foam, so hopefully it will arrive intact at my FFL. Then 10 days of "cooling off" before I can take it home.

I bid cautiously on this one because there weren't many pics and the description was even sparser. I'm hoping it is legit. People that are knowledgeable seem to think it looks legit from the pictures.

Sheepdog, can you post any pics of yours?

Thanks, dolk. I've been looking for one of these for sometime now. Hoping it is as nice in person as it looks in the pictures.

Your next post should be a range report. Hundred yards to start will be fine. Your 60 day report should show dents in the steel targets at 600 yards.

Any explanation for the "1942B" on the Ajack scope?

I have also one scope just like that, and I'm not certain if it is real or fake. All other ones of these scopes that I have personally seen have "1941B" after serial number. Also the excellent "gotavapen" site article "Swedish Military Rifles 1894 - 1995" shows the scope with "1941B".

Any literature reference explaining that, 1941B/1942B? It COULD be year of manufacture, but..

Scope m42 is the Swedish AGA so it is confusing.

They used something like 4000 Ajack scopes to make the Swedish m/41. Close to half from 1941 and the rest from 42. Should be a serial number on yours over #2000.
The B means the Swedish armorers converted the m/41 into the B model around 1955. Improvements in the lenses being coated and a stop screw added to the base.
Other Improvements to mount and base. Rumor has it that a few m/41s with the AGA 44 scopes were made into B models but no AGA42s. The Ajack is far superior to both.

The very best reference to Swedish Mausers is Crown Jewels by Dana Jones.
