The old girl still has it

I took the old girl out to the range today. She still bangs the gong at 200 meters with ease. Not bad for a 124 year old M91 rifle, albeit with a re-lined barrel from our Finnish friends. Her receiver is an 1894 Sestroretsk.

I tend to believe it's equal parts rifle and shooter, but regardless great shooting.

Did the Finns make the P series rifles before they started making barrels?

Yes they did. Those Finn rifles stamped P-26 or P-27 were re-lined.

That's sorta mind-blowing. It looks to me like it would be harder to drill a hole dead center thru a gun barrel and put in a liner, than it would to make a new barrel. Haas anyvone else ever done that?

Before the "Salerno" relining process beginning in 1925, a small batch of Finnish Barrels were made by the Suomen Ampumatarvikehhedas in Riihimäki. Very few of these SAT Riihimäki M91 survive. Also, In 1925, Tikkakoski began making new barrels for new M91's. Tikka made around 10K new barrels during '25, '26, and '27. Denny

The process was used by the Italians and other countries. The "Salerno" process was developed by the Italian Dr. Tito Tabet, and the Finns retubed around 18K barrels from 1925 to 1927. Around 15K retubed M91 barrels were accepted, and very few stamped 1925 have been found. Denny
