Norinco date id?

Post by Tcmosin »

How do you date a Norinco? Looking at a 526 arsenal marked, pin barrel, Poly USA ATL GA, S.N. 16xxxxxk, Fold out Bayonet. I was thinking it was about a 1972 but not sure any input would be helpful, Thanks.

Norinco is a state owned arsenal of China. They did not disclose dates and that is the main reason our ATF will not allow Chinese firearms to be classified C&R.

From what I've read they didn't start business till 1980 and was primarily a exporter. This rifle seems to have some early and late features on it, seems to be a clean rifle considering it a Norinco. Were a lot of the guns they exported just surplus and they threw them into to the commercial market?
