Whats the story on my SVT40 Podolsk...

Post by Pureform »

So whats the story on the Podolsk variant? I paid around $500 at a gunshow last year... All matching serial numbers (receiver,bolt and wood stock) and came with this sling...Gas tool and two mags... Has a rail to put a scope mount...
Someone told me last one sold on gunbroker for $1575?

Also I've seen the AVT stocks and the regular svt stocks, but mine seem to have the svt40 stock (thinner) with the the double notches for semi and full auto but don't have the AVT marking on the wood ... Were the svt40 stocks also full auto till they switched it to AVT stocks?

A lot less of that variant made. Worth that much more ....? (if you can get it.

Two mags is very nice. They are about $75 plus for a spare mag alone.

Rail mounts on the side mean nothing. If it don't have the notch in the rear of the receiver, it was never a sniper. Mine had rail mounts but no notch. Many do. The notch is what confirms it.

Thinner stock and notched for full auto means the stock at one time was on a full auto AVT. May or may not have been on this rifle unless there are numbers matching to the stock to the rifle. But it is a rebuild or refurbished rifle. Usually that means parts for different rifles.

SVT stocks were semi fire only. AVT stocks were select-able. Actually they had AVT stocks on first and had both SVT and AVT versions. Later they dropped the AVT as it was not a system the Russians though was as usable. All the AVT's were then converted to SVTs.

I think I got that all right! ;mywink;

I wish the mags were $75 cause I wanted to buy two more and all I see are $200 each and beat to death... Also about the stock the serial number on the left side matches with the reciever but dont have the A for the avt...

Very beautiful automatic rifle. These were once not so high at gun stores and shows, such is not the case now. I should have obtained.

One mag on ebay right now (buy it now) for $79.90

Another one for $149.00

They are all over the place. If you keep an eye out, they are out there.

Also remember, each of those mags were custom fitted to the rifle. One of the reasons they are numbered to the rifle. In other words, if you buy one it is a possibility it won't run in your rifle. My rifle is like that, every mag has to be bent just a little to make it cycle right.

The one for 79 is an aftermarket and the one for 149 is from Canada pinned to only accept 5 rounds

Numrich has repro's for $45.00. While these mags will need fitting anyway a repro may suffice.
