New clothes for the WASR

Decided to de-'tacticool' the WASR 10/63 just for the heck of it. Snagged a brand new laminate stock set online for $30. With my long arms it feels just like trying to shoot an AR15 with the adjustable stock shortened all the way...

Just my opinion, so not worth much, but I think AK Series rifles look better with wooden furniture. That is what I think of when I hear mention of an AK rifle, wooden furniture, not plastic or whatever else is out there.
Again just my personal opinion and preference, and I understand people can do whatever they want with their rifles. BTW I like the way it looks now, old school as it was meant to look.

Looks like an AK. I like the 'classic' look, but some AK's never came that way like the AMD-65, I like them, too. I built three of them! I like Marc Krebs' AK's also, and they don't have wood.

True there are the ones that were never in wood, such as the AMD-65 as you pointed out, and they look cool. Again that is how they came originally.
Had to look up Marc Krebs as I had no ideal who that was.......Now I'm reading an article by him on finding AK parts etc.

My biggest problem with most of the Communist rifles is that I'm 6'5" with the corresponding arm length. The AK's and SKS's in their original wood forces me to adopt some strange positions for my arms while shooting them. This one came in a folding Tapco stock, Fab Defense railed handguard and gas tube cover and SAW style grip. I swapped the stock out for an adjustable one and it was nice to shoot, but got no interest at all when I listed it for sale. I lucked out on the stock as a buddy went to try and get one after I mentioned it and they were out of stock and looks like they're upwards of $60 everywhere else.

My solution to the short stock was to add a buttpad.

I recently changed the stock out on my WASR 10/63. It had a Tapco side folder on it, and I picked up a Romanian stock set from APEX for a nice price ($39.00). The wood needed cleaned and gunk stripped from it, and it turned out real nice IMHO. There was a metric ton of clumped up varnish and cosmoline on the wood. I wish I had taken before pictures of the stock set. They were funky! I started out with fine steel wool and denatured alcohol for the major part of it, and ended up using Citri Strip to finish the removal. It's my first time using Citri Strip, and it worked like a champ!
I'm like mogunner as I'm 6'4", and have monkey arms. The short length of pull isn't the most comfortable when shooting, but I sure dig the traditional look. The stock matched the front wood nicely, so I didn't have to change it out.

This was how mine was previously. When I was on the road a lot this was real handy to have behind the seat on the old pickup for sure.
